Rear sets - renegaderacer - 02-07-12 Hi guys, I'm converting my Fazer into a cafe racer and need some rear sets and don't fancy spending 340 odd quid on some Gilles ones! :eek Any cheaper suggestions? Cheers, Giles ![]() Re: Rear sets - YamFazMan - 02-07-12 Hi I made my own the 30x5 MS strip came from B&Q They raise the footrests up 20mm and back10mm https://dl.dropbox.com/u/70564722/img022.jpg https://dl.dropbox.com/u/70564722/rearsets1.jpg I used 8mm x 20mm cap head bolts to hold the footrests with a std washer between the Brk and the footest to give enough clearance for the head of Fazer bolts holding the Brk to the bike. Edit :- In the photo I hadn't made the gearlink extension just moved the lever around the splines. Heres a link to an earlier post :- http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php?topic=3007.msg24310#msg24310 ATB YFM Re: Rear sets - renegaderacer - 03-07-12 Cheers YFM, that's great! ![]() I'll give it a go but without the use of a lathe or milling machine, I'm going to have to try with a hacksaw and angle grinder! LOL :lol Re: Rear sets - YamFazMan - 03-07-12 Hi No lathe or Milling M/c, Just a Hacksaw,a File or two ,a cheap pedestal drill a couple of drills and metric taps. Come on you can do it ![]() ATB YFM Re: Rear sets - caretaker - 03-07-12 i've modified a few bikes over the years and used whatever was available. cbr600 rear sets are fairly cheap on ebay, but i would usually weld a suitable plate to suit. not something you can do on an assembled bike very easily though. Given my history of welding things; I think I'll try the first method! :lol Cheers, Giles Re: Rear sets - renegaderacer - 15-07-12 Well, thanks to YFM's very helpful drawing, I've successfully made and fitted the riser plates and they feel great, although I still might get rearsets in the future when funds allow for an even racier position. I was going to post pictures of them but my footrest hangers look horrible! :lol Anyone recommend something to clean oily, corroded, alloy hangers? Re: Rear sets - YamFazMan - 16-07-12 Hi Well done I knew you could do it Halfrauds have offers on large tins of ellbow grease :rolleyes :lol ATB YFM Re: Rear sets - andy352299 - 16-07-12 i have just made a set of these myself i used different dimensions. basically new hole centres are back 15mm and up 20mm. and for my short legs they feel pretty good i used 1 of these and a 6mm bolt with the head cut off to extend the gear change rod http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221065976423 still have 9 left if anyone wants one Re: Rear sets - YamFazMan - 16-07-12 Hi Andy Good idea for the gear link extension ATB YFM Re: Rear sets - andy352299 - 16-07-12 yer or i am just lazy (16-07-12, 08:12 PM)YamFazMan link Wrote:Hi Andy Re: Rear sets - YamFazMan - 16-07-12 Hi I also made some Rear Footrest Hangers that moved the footrests forward 50mm and down 50mm The wife was getting cramp on the pillion. https://dl.dropbox.com/u/70564722/87.jpg https://dl.dropbox.com/u/70564722/88.JPG https://dl.dropbox.com/u/70564722/90.JPG https://dl.dropbox.com/u/70564722/100.JPG ATB YFM Re: Rear sets - Fazbaz - 16-07-12 (02-07-12, 10:33 PM)YamFazMan link Wrote:HiI've got a set just like them in the garage but made from stainless steel. The missus is always complaining about cramp on longer journerys, so maybe I'll give it a go. On the other hand, if the standard set-up means I get more Sunday blasts without a pillion getting in the way........... ![]() Re: Rear sets - YamFazMan - 17-07-12 Hi I forgot to say you can get the 30mm x 5mm x 1m steel strip from B&Q ATB YFM Re: Rear sets - Ben600 - 18-07-12 just to add to this thread, I am in the process of adapting my SES rearsets from one of my Ducati's to fit the FZS. the bolt holes are only 2mm out, so a tiny amount of filing is needed ![]() Re: Rear sets - renegaderacer - 18-07-12 (18-07-12, 08:52 PM)Ben600 link Wrote:just to add to this thread, I am in the process of adapting my SES rearsets from one of my Ducati's to fit the FZS. the bolt holes are only 2mm out, so a tiny amount of filing is neededHmmm, interesting. ![]() Let me know how you get on! ![]() Giles Re: Rear sets - Ben600 - 18-07-12 I will let you know, with pics... ![]() I just now need to dig out my shift lever, as I much prefer 'race pattern' gear shift ![]() FYI: these are what I am using, however it is possible that the ones designed for other yamahas may fit easier still? http://www.sesraceproducts.com/ducati-583-fixed-rear-set-rsd006-x-215-p.asp Re: Rear sets - YamFazMan - 20-07-12 Hi With the Ducati rearsets fitted have you pushed the bike off the centerstand. I seem to recall the lever that you put your foot on when operating the centerstand with my mod fitted came quite close to the footrest and the Ducati ones look a lot further back and may clash with the centerstand foot lever. ATB YFM Re: Rear sets - andy352299 - 20-07-12 simular for me the centre stand foot operating bit is very close to the gear change linkage. (20-07-12, 05:03 PM)YamFazMan link Wrote: Hi |
