New biker needs foggy visor help.... - robcaton1234 - 28-04-12

I wear a caberg flip front helmet and glasses. I just bought and fitted a proshield anti fog visor insert which has solved the visor problem but my glasses still fog up......I can't buy the usual anti fog masks that fit into the inside of the helmet as these apparently don't work with flip front visors. Someone told me that you can buy a mask with a tube that feeds your breath down and out but I can't for the life of me find one. if anyone has any ideas I'd be very gratefull.....I'm having a hard enough time just staying upright on my bike at the moment without worrying about not being able to see where I'm going!!!!! :rollin :rollin :rollin

Re: New biker needs foggy visor help.... - Gingernutz - 28-04-12

I had a caberg too and there is a coating on the inside that is meant to help fog but didn't.
There are loads of potions and things / sprays you can get - but they are not great.  The only real solution is called a pinlock.
Its like double glazing for helmets and top end lids have visors you can add it to. Cheaper lids can be adapted using a kit like this

The problem I found with my caberg is that when I drilled the visor the coating came off and lifted over 6 months.
These won't help your glasses I'm afraid - try a little fairy liquid a few people swear by it (but its has salt so might scatch them)

thanks gingernuts.....I've already fitted a proshield insert and that has helped with the visor.....as for my glasses....I think it might be time to invest in some contact lenses!!  :eek :eek :eek

I have the same problems. Pinloc works great in the lid but my glasses still mist up. I use fog tec wipes. The work realy well but do only last on the lens for a few hrs.

Pin lock all the way. I've got a Caberg EGO helmet which came with a pinlock as standard. Works great!!

With regard to your glasses you could always do what divers and swimmers do, but it is rather gross . . . . . . . .

8)  Just an idea .. minimal cost.

Best to have/use a second pair of glasses just for the bike.

Cut a raw potato into small lumps and rub onto the inside of your specs.
You can carry a few extra bits of raw spud in a plastic bag .. to keep them wet .. and use as required during a long haul ride or tour.

Wash and Clean off all the 'old spud' after each ride and start again with fresh spud for the next ride / next day  :b

Once you are off the bike .. use the other pair of specs as normal  :rolleyes

Just a note:
When riding or driving over here on mainland Europe .. you are required by law to carry a second pair of glasses!
Right now with the current financial situation .. most if not all Police forces are 'collecting money' for the Governments like never before.

Lots of on the spot fines  .. some over £100 and £150 .. for daft little things like No GB Sticker, driving in open toed sandals or flip-flops, driving without a shirt (that's boys as well as girls!) All kinds of 'paperwork' failings and as I say ..  Not having a spare pair of specs!

Stay Safe Guys  Wink    Polar Bear (Spain)

Re: New biker needs foggy visor help.... - DILLIGAFF - 29-04-12

I remember this as a perennial problem in my foul weather biking days.

For all you budding entrepreneurs out there............... can't someone invent a spring loaded visor which, using a very weak spring, cracks open about 25mm at speeds under about 10 mph. This would allow any misting to clear whilst not blasting the rider's face with cold wet air.

Then as you move off the wind pressure would re-close the visor.............simples.

Place one blob of Fairy washing up liquid on each lens rub it all over both sides and leave for 10 minutes then polish gently with a cotton cloth until the lens is clear (use Fairy, other brands don't seem to work well)

or use the scum that forms on a bar of soap once opened

Re: New biker needs foggy visor help.... - dx408 - 29-04-12

Before I started using helmets with anti mist visors I used to polish a little washing up liquid in to the visor and it worked for a time dont know if this would work with glasses but worth a go also have used the "pink stick" this is a was stick that stops misting again not sure how good it would be on glasses may be worth a go.

You mean summat like http://www.infinitymotorcycles.com/product/respro-foggy-anti-fog-mask-carbon-and-kevlar/95 I had one yrs ago and they do work. Not overly comfy, but I'm fussy like that!

Re: New biker needs foggy visor help.... - Strifae - 29-04-12

I went through all of this for years and I finally solved the problem with my Glasses misting up...

I got contact lenses ...

Re: New biker needs foggy visor help.... - AdieR - 29-04-12

Muc-Off do an anti-fog spray (Premium Anti-Fog Treatment its called), spray a little on your glasses, and wipe with a clean tissue / cloth. £3.50 for a 35ml (pocket sized) bottle from Halfords. There is a big bottle available too but don't know the size / price of it off hand.

Re: New biker needs foggy visor help.... - ghostbiker - 29-04-12

Fog tec came out tops in every test I have seen for sprays , wipes and potions. No doubt Pinloc is great on visors but the problem with glasses is offten they have protective coatings on them. This can effect how some chemicals work on them and some will strip the coatings of the glasses. I used the fairy and spud options years ago when dispatch riding..... It realy dosent work well and the modern potions work far better.
With fog tec I carry the wipes with me, then just use a wipe when needed. I hear the muc off is also good though.

Contacts or laser surgery is best but I don't get on with contacts and can't afford surgery.

Re: New biker needs foggy visor help.... - NotAnotherHill - 29-04-12

I used to do a lot of cycling and found that my glasses misted up. I used the washing up liquid on the inside of the lens and then polished it off and it does work for a while.

Re: New biker needs foggy visor help.... - AdieR - 30-04-12

@ghostbiker: don't know about other products, but the Muc-Off stuff (according to the bottle) is safe on prescription glasses and sunglasses, as well as visors and goggles.

Lazer Revolution is the helmet that directs your breath away from the inside. Alas this has a mask. Try a asnti fog application like Bob Heath.

Re: New biker needs foggy visor help.... - mikelockyer - 06-05-12

Hi Try a Pinlock visor insert. Not he cheapest but the best. Have used this summer and winter for about 5 years now. A cheaper option is a Foggy get the original one.Good luck. Mike
