  Motorcycle Direct insurance renewal
Posted by: BMCfaz - 28-06-14, 09:41 AM - Forum: Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner - Replies (15)

I know it's been said a thousand times or more, but don't ever just accept your insurance renewal quote without checking the competition!

My insurance is due in a couple of weeks and I hadn't even opened the letter from Motorcycle Direct when I got a phone call from them. The cost had increased by over 50% despite the Gen1, and me, being a year older and no claims or convictions for another year. All they would say was "London postcode and no garage, it's the best we can do".

A check on Compare the Meerkat revealed not only that I could get a better deal from plenty of other companies, but that I could get a better deal from THEM as a new customer, rather than renewing!

I've saved nearly £200 by changing to Bennetts, who I always thought were expensive, and phoned Motorcycle Direct to tell them they'd lost my business. To be fair, the woman I spoke to tried to get their underwriters to see why there was such a difference, but it seems to me that they just aren't trying very hard to keep business.

With all the comparison sites around, there's no excuse for not checking out your options, and, if everyone does it, we may see brokers actually doing some work to find us the best deals. My grandson also gets a meerkat toy, so that's a result too!

Need help diagnosing a problem please

Hi guys, this is for an SV 650 hence why it is in the general. On Monday I am going to wales with my Dad on our bikes and his has in my opinion quite an annoying issue that will definitely detract from the trip for him. I told him a while back his rear tyre looks square and he has recently said he started to notice when cornering. He doesn't ride that often anymore and often when he does it is short journeys. He has bought a new one which arrived yesterday, but last time he replaced the tyre there was corrosion found in the beading on the wheel which the mechanic said would need to be looked at next tyre change. He is worried that getting this seen to and replaced could make the new tyre not sit properly and at worst it could lose pressure / blow due to the beading damage. So, he is going to keep the old fairly squared tyre on for the wales trip.

I had a go on it tonight to see what it feels like because it is one thing him explaining it and actually feeling for myself. It is noticeable, but not so bad. I discovered a separate issue however which is far worse in my opinion. The whole bike was juddering uncontrollably even in a straight line and even with the clutch pulled in. Its more noticeable at speed, he can't ride hundreds of miles like that never mind a square tyre. His wheel weight fell off recently, but he found it in the shed and glued it back on where it was originally. Surely it can't be that? It is a really quite noticeable judder, not a vibration a big judder. I am thinking possibly wheel bearings? I have ridden it before and it never felt like this and it has happened at a really unfortunate time. Any help greatly appreciated!

Hi all, just got my first fzs 600. It's a 2001 model in silver with 32k on the clock. Fairly high mileage I know, but it's in very good condition with loads of history and has been well looked after by the looks of it. Cost me a grand and so far I'm dead happy with it. Need to fill a small hole where the downpipe meets the exhaust and think the carbs need balancing as there's a bit of buzz vibration at a couple of spots on the revs, but apart from that it's all good.  No doubt I'll be on here a fair bit finding things out!

FZS600 Fazer Mark 1 V Reg for Sale - SORN & no MOT
Posted by: Tibbs - 27-06-14, 10:21 PM - Forum: For Sale & Wanted - Replies (9)

I'm reluctantly selling my Yamaha FZS 600 Fazer.

I'm selling due to illness, I can't ride it any more. I've been holding out hoping I'd be able to ride again, but it's not going to happen. I'm also moving and don't have anywhere to keep it at my new place. It's currently SORN and the MOT ran out in March. I have both keys and a pack of paperwork.

It passed the last MOT with no advisories. It has done about 30 miles since then and has been parked under cover.

It is White having been resprayed from Gold by a previous owner. It is a very good job.

I have added crash bungs and a scottoiller, both of which were installed professionally. There are scuffs on the bar end and levers, so it has been dropped in the past, however a bike of this age is bound to have been.

It rides beautifully, and it starts and runs just fine. I have been up and down the private area next to my flat with it and everything is smooth.

I have a little booster pack that I use to charge the battery and it also works as a jump starter that you're welcome to have.

One of the black side panels (the one on the right hand side of the bike as you sit on it, opposite to the seat lock) has snapped off but I have it and it should be fixable with some Araldite.

You could probably ride it right to a bike shop now and it would pass an mot.

I also have some kit to sell - an HTC flip front lid Medium, a Hein Gericke 58 jacket and xxxl salopettes, both fabric, some BKS half boots and a pair of gloves. I'll post pictures up tomorrow. I'm a 40" waist trouser and a 48" chest to help with sizing. I'm 5'10" tall and the trousers are a touch long for me, but ok on the bike, just about.

Please PM me if you have any questions.

You can see any issues I've had with it by searching on my user name. The last full service I did fixed the hesitation issue I think but I've not done nearly enough miles to confirm.

I'd like £700 for it.
