This is what I've been driving today
« on: 23 August 2013, 06:33:20 pm »

My Nephew and I hired this from BMW today and I managed to max it out for a few brief seconds.

I have an old E39 525 Touring which I've owned for 12 years but this was a whole new ball game.  Totally bonkers and was as easy in town as it was at on the Autobahn.  I'm hooked.  I've been trying to persuade my Mrs that an E46 M3 is a sensible option for an old couple like us?

Hehe.

M3's and M5's are beautiful cars but just cost too much to buy and maintain unless you're happy to spend a fortune on tyres, servicing, insurance and fuel.

Buy a gs1200, a 1000ss and a motocross bike and keep the change :-P

We spunked 48 litres of fuel in Under 3 hours.  It had to be done as  I might never get the chance again.  I've always wanted an E46 M3 but she who wears the trousers hates spending on tyres, fuel, insurance and maintenance.  And she wants a diesel Focus. Which is a great car 99.5% of the time

Convince her to get an Astra 888 diesel. 200bhp, goes like stink, and still gets 45+mpg! (then you can re-map it  :car

I once had an indicated 180 mph (ish - you can't spend long looking at the clocks at that speed!) on my FZR1000. Only chance I ever got to try this, it was rock steady, but bugger me, never again!

If I'm completely honest, which I normally am to the point of getting thwacked inna chops, I find the ladies clothes less disturbing than both recommending Vauxhalls and/or watching BB.

Almost bought a 323 / 325 last year but ended up with my ZS - significantly cheaper to buy AND maintain (only cost me £465!)

When we took the car back we parked next to an M6 which the chap told us was a beast compared to the M3 and made it feel a bit tame. Somehow I need to persuade my gorgeous beautiful wife that I need another trip to the Fatherland. Soon?
