My son arrived home this evening, complaining that his bike was jumping out of gear, clutch was slipping and making funny noises when pushing it into the garage.
We went out to have a look and I asked him to pull off the front sprocket cover.  :)
How can you check the jumping out of gear that way he asked. :rolleyes
Wait and see I said  :eek
No prizes for guessing which one was on the shaft  :lol
New chain and sprockets tomorrow, needless to say I wasn't to impressed

Wow... that is one hell of a worn sprocket! What state was the chain in with a sprocket like that?

A ninja star is right, I felt like throwing it at him,  :'(
I asked him when he checked the front sprocket last and he never checked it since we changed the chain and sprocket 20,000 miles ago.
In fairness he always kept it greased. The chain was a X ring DID  and wasn't as bad as I had expected, a few tight links and tight spots.

How did that pass the last MOT?  Surely it can't have worn from an "Advisory" to that in less than a year?

If they can't see it they can't give an advisory surely?

I went for an MOT once and it started hacking it down with rain, when i came back half hour later the bike was in the same place outside where i left it with dry patches underneath, it hadn't even been moved!

Passed though  :D

Possibly 'cos he knows i'm a fussy git and there wouldn't be any issues with it anyway!  :lol

Haha, my srad 750 stripped the centre splines on mine, I was piss worried to start with praying it wasn't the drive shaft that was knackered!

New chain and sprockets fitted and a valuable lesson learned by another your rider.  :)
