Highest mileage bike you've had?

Got chatting to a friendly Chilean courier the other day. Was riding a beautiful SP2 but has a Fzs600 for work.... with over 170,000 miles on it (original engine). Good sign for us 600 owners.

Can anybody beat that?

Wow, that is definitely the highest mileage Fazer I have ever heard of!

I still think it's probably in better condition than my 86k engine :P

Hi fuzzy how r ya mate? If its the guy i thinkin of his fazer 6 is gold and his name is alex has a beard and is known in the smoke as the wulf cos of his plate. Heres some pics of his scum 600. Ive known him quite awhile. V nice chap.







The only other bike i owned was a gen 1 fzs6 in black and i put 290'000 miles on doin distance work for addison lee over a five year period. Apart from the usual consumables i changed the gearbox @ 170'000 and that was it. I dont know of another despatch rider who did more on a fazer. But a vfr yes.

The XJ900 I own went round the clock recently and still runs really nice. A good omen for Yamaha bikes generally I think.

not really had any high mileage bikes... or cars for that matter. Pretty sure there was a similar thread in the thou section and couple of them had huge mileages. As you say it's good news for us who only have a tiny 45k on ours. haha

My 600 is nearly as dirty as that   It's up to 47k so far, expecting that to be ~67k this time next year.

Hey Exupnut - yes that's probably him, can't be that many bearded dispatch riders from Chile about! Nice bloke and I definitely recognise that Fazer, I've seen it out and about. His shock collapsed last week so he bought my Wilbers shock.

290k is astonishing mate - alot of people dismiss bikes with over 50k as had it, just goes to show.

Funny enough, got chatting to an ex-dispatcher the other week whose always had vfrs and he said they do sky high mileages. Irish bloke called Ian, maybe you know him too.

I'm often made late because I've been chatting with one of you dispatchers

The earlier gear driven cam ones do, they were ridiculously over engineered, to the point where at 40k odd they're barely run in!

My highest mileage car was a '91 VW Mark 2 Golf GTI which managed 225k before the engine went kaput Mind you, the bodywork at the rear was in very bad condition, you could easily stick your fist in to the boot through the huge ass hole due to rust :S

1987 Yamaha FJ1200 - 14,000 in 3 weeks - returned to the dealer due to excessive vibration
1990 Honda VFR750 FL - 852,000 - engine replaced at 440,000 after it blew its head gasket

Came with Ohlins suspension and went for under £2000. They sound lovely but what put me off is that they're a bit heavy for what they are and not the easiest to work on, so I stuck with my Fazer

I was looking at vfrs before i got my fazer. The frequency and cost of major services like checking valves put me off them. Glad it did cos i love my fz1s.

I've been dispatching 6 years now,
I got 120,000 out of my '99 MK1 fazer before I retired her and some polish guy bought it (it was ill- gearbox, clutch, problems in a downpour) I couldn't be arsed to spend money fixing her cause I already had a thundercat waiting.
Thundercat also did 120,000 miles but then this happened-



2nd thundercta was only at 55,000 when I got knocked off last year and she was written off,
Srad 750 is at 45,000 but got to sell due to no one wants to insure me,
Now back on a '03 fazer with 13,000- she should last me a couple of years hopefully but I'm not gentle on them!

Luckily my ipad and the photographers portfolio I was carrying (which are very expensive for just a few pictures) flew out the topbox when it bounced up the kerb, the bike proceeded to bounce off some bollards and back into the road whilst simultaneously the kerb ruptured the tank and this happened, meanwhile I was sliding on my arse feet first towards the bollards, thinking 'oh crap I'm gonna break my legs', did a little Hollywood stunting and lifted my legs to one side as I got there resulting in me twatting my tailbone on said kerb.


Obviously I took pictures and video first, then rang the fire brigade, I ride past the spot every morning and have a little smile at the still melted road surface, this was over a year ago!

Saying that, you can't miss me at Christmas cause I dress up as Santa for the week and for comic reliefs Red Nose Day this year I dressed up as a tiger, happily raising just over £200!
