IF you can keep your Fazer clean when all about you
Are dropping theirs and blaming it on diesel spill,
If you can trust your brakes when cagers cut across you,
But make allowance for their cutting still
If you can tinker and not be tired by tinkering,
Or degrease and re-lube every 1000 miles
Or being punctured, don't give way to sinking
And yet don’t look too good, nor smile too wide.
If you can rev- and still keep your throttle snappy;
If you can lean and get your knee down in rain;
If you can meet with Triumph and Ducati
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to see the mods you've made
knocked by purists to set a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your garage to, slated
And stoop and strip it down again with worn-out tools:
If you can make one pile of all your parts
and put individual pics of them on the FOCer forum
And then send each piece, in fits and starts
and not make one pence of profit from your boredom.
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To polish your beast until it shines,
Then getting rained upon, pick up your cloth and continue
And still ignore the boss when she whines.
If you can quote a newbie and keep your virtue,
Or correct an admin – and not lose the common touch,
if neither flamers nor the over-opinionated can hurt you,
If all straight-line-fours respect you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of high-rev fun,
Yours is the road and everything that's on it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Foccer, my son!
