I'm gonna have to investigate it cos my xbox is wired to router cos I had issues with adaptor. I seen that icon mentioned on a forum somewhere but I think it was to do with smart tv's. I have smartglas which is good for controlling the xbox but it don't stream video from the fone.

Also looked at hooking up the phone to tv to turn it into a mock laptop but I need one of the samsung hub things and from what I can tell it's only retailing in america for 99 dullards plus carriage.
That would be ideal so I can kook up keynoard mouse etc all at once. Stoll looking into other stuff tho. A cable for hdmi is a must but I can wait cos the screen on this thing is magic. I'm happy propping it up and watching stuff like its a mini tv

Since it doesn't look like you can use an OTG cable as well as a MHL cable at the same time I guess you were right originally.  Bluetooth keyboard/mouse and a MHL cable for the stonking price of £3.99

I upgraded my, umm, Nokia 1100 to a Galaxy S2 last year.  Got a good deal as the S3 had just come out.

Can't say I'm big on these things.  But texting is so much easier than on the 1100.  Plus being able to check weather forecasts, search for details, check post codes and addresses on Google maps etc is very handy.

I've downloaded a sum total of two aps - flickr (use all the time) and a nice little ap that gives you your position on an OS map, but it takes the map off mobile masts so is of limited use and is slow anyway.

The down side the thing eats it's own battery.

So I figured when I'm out walking I'll keep it switched off, and a lot of the time it can't get a signal anyway when I'm walking, but the darn thing switches itself on in my pocket then starts eating it's own battery.  Which is the other thing, it's not a big phone by current standards, but I wouldn't want anything bigger, these things take up too much space in one's pocket.

But yes by far the most annoying feature is it's ability to switch itself on and eat it's own battery.  Which means it has to go in my back pack, and then I have to remember it's in there when I stop for lunch as you can't find a nice rock to sit, well I'll sit on my pack.

Generally on most android phones you can look at what is using the battery by going in to settings, then battery.  This will give you an indicator of what is gobbling it up.  You may find it's the GPS and/or screen that eats it all up.  Turn em off/down if/when you can.


Also worth looking in the play store at CRADAR it's a man down app which is handy for motorcyclists.  One of the other forum guys mentioned it a week or two back and it's worth passing around.

I needed or wanted to go paperless too but decided on a blackberry phone and one of their mini tablets - the playbook. Haven't looked back - the pb comes with a very secure operating system built on android - less apps but NHS Mail and the uber secure connections work a dream. The combo of pb and blackberry phone means bluetooth rather than wifi tethering and 3g mobile internet.

Andy. There will be an quick switch that you can stick on home screen that will let you turn the mobile data/3g on and off quickly.  This will double the life of the battery.
Find a space kn the home screen amd lkng press and it brings up a menu for apps and widgets. Go to widgets and settings then mobile data. It should plonk it where you first long pressed.

Ignore that amazon one.  It doesn't have a HDMI socket on it, it's an adapter to go from a 5 pin to an 11 pin.  Not ideal.  this one looks more appropriate

I find that if I'm dipping in and out of signal, my phone dies in minutes, might be worth putting it into air plane mode, then it stays on and locked
it'll last days and days in air plane mode.


My desire HD has a quick switch for air plane mode, makes it easy

You're right. The note and s3/s4 are for completely different usage cases.

In the next couple of years screen resolution on phones is going to go mental. The Google pixel notebook and the increasing dpi is going to be awesome.
