FZS 600 Swing arm coating
« on: 22 January 2013, 02:53:00 pm »
Afternoon Foccors,

I have taken the swing arm off for winter greasing... and thought it would look good polished!! as you do... But I am having major difficulty in removing the coating that is present. Does anyone know what the coating is? and has anyone done this to their 600 or given up and painted straight over the top? Is there a knack to removing the coating? I have tried Nitormors and I have been sanding for the last 4 hours and my fingers are showing bone!!

Many thanks in advance

Charlie

It's anodised, so is not affected by most solvents and is quite difficult to sand off as it's as hard as many abrasives.
Some oven cleaners contain caustic soda and that will dissolve the anodising... go carefully though, it also dissolves aluminium.

can you get it soda or bead blasted? if so that should get rid of #top coat# but then you will still have loads of work to get it to polished standards, polished bike bits look great but pain to keep in tip top condition if you ride it!

So after 20 hours of labour the swingarm is complete, polished and reattached to the bike.... including lots of shiny nuts and a fazer thou shock conversion(not for the faint hearted).... what do you think Foccors??

It wouldn't be fun if it was easy, I just wish it wasn't this much fun.

Stupid question probably but what's that red thing with the bar sticking out of it?

Haha, I'm a very patient man but i'm also far too much of a perfectionist and would always think it could be a bit more shiny. haha! I have a bad enough time trying to get my foot pegs and brackets looking the way I want them, think i'm going to spray them black so I stop trying to clean them! haha!

Ye, the full 9 hose kit is £108 delivered and if you'd like some nice shiny stainless clips then that is another £16 on top of the £108. We're getting an awesome discount, about 40% off what the kits will retail at after the orginal group buy. There is still a couple of weeks, while they make the tooling to make the kits, so Let me know as soon as you can and you might get in on the group order and save yourself quite a few quid if not then let me know when you do want a set and i'll see if I can get you a kit at a discounted price.

Cheers,

Chris

No worries mate, like I said, give me a shout and I'll let you know if your in time for the group buy or if I can get you a good discount from sfs. I'm ordering a few extra kits to make up the numbers so if i've not heard from you in time i'll make sure and get an extra one in red so let me know.  8)

The foot pegs and brackets are just so damn fiddly!! Getting there though. mine is still sitting with its wheels off looking sorry for itself, it'll be back together soon though! Just a pain not having my own garage so keep it at my dads which is about 10 miles away.

Seriously contemplating on doing this as well. Looks stunning!  :thumbup
But as Chris said, I too would be too much of a perfectionist and with the weather up here in Finland, I'd drive for an hour and polish for two.  :\

But maybe... It's not like I have much to do while I wait for the snow to melt anyway.  ;)
