Track bike - The law
« on: 11 June 2012, 03:45:04 pm »
I'm toying with the idea of buying myself a second hand track bike. Just at the beginning investigation phase at the moment but have a couple of questions that could be a deal breaker. Hopefully you wise old foccers can help?

So, if I intended on having a race prepped bike that I SOLELY was going to use on track days (ie, using a trailer and car to deliver it there etc), do I need to have it MOT'd or insured at all?

The only way this could work for me would be if it didn't cost me any money (except for depreciation) whilst it wasn't being used in the garage.....thoughts on a postcard folks  ;)

If it's registered with DVLA you'd have to either insure it or declare it SORN. To insure it you may have to have an MOT, depending on your insurer............... so make sure you SORN it every year.

SORN it and you won't need tax or MOT. Not sure if they didn't change the insurance rules recently though.

:agree

As long as it is SORN, no MOT or insurance is needed. You may want insurance for on the track though.
Another ex-Fazer rider that is a foccer again

Cool, thanks peeps. Am thinking to spend no more than £1500 on the bike and i'll take my chances with track insurance....if I bin it then tough cookie.

Next plan of action, how to convince the missus that I need 3 bikes in the garage? Hmmm....2 was tough, 3 is a challenge!  :D
