Its not so much what they look like, as they're standard R1 5JJ forks, it's whats inside them.
There's some info & pics on the Roadracers suspension webpage below (bottom third of the webpage), which shows the same Ohlins valve kit fitted to early R1 forks.

http://www.roadracers.co.uk/suspension.htm

I had a previous standard pair of 4XV forks & found myself fiddling with the setup quite a lot. From memory I didn't change the replacement Ohlins fork settings at all, they were spot on as they arrived.

1st mention of them below, post#99

The problem with socialism is that sooner or later you run out of other people's money!

Straight bolt on front-end

I only discovered the seal problem when I took them out of the loft yesterday.

The reduced price reflects the hassle of acquiring & fitting a seal. If I have to replace the seal, the price goes back up again  :)

Hi...
Just came back from the IOM and i think i found the limits on my (never serviced in 50k) standard suspension...
Was wondering... how did you find the ride with these on? are they worth the pennies? essentially a 1/4 of my rides value?
I used to have R1's and ZX9's i few years back and could get them really dialled in... still want something sporty to keep up with my friends and bought the Faz to save my old back and arse .. and as we know the suspension is limited... I have Devilsyam rear R6 shock which did make a huge difference to what was on there..
So did you find them worth while? and why have you taken them off?? i also see they are on evilbay (for less)..??
Am really interested in these and also the others that are on sale on here as well... just need to justify the outlay... LOL
Cheers.... Colin

Hi,
I initially fitted a pair of standard 4xv forks and found the damping a bit disappointing. These modified 5jj forks were a lot better right away, I only changed the springs, never really felt the need to adjust the damping in them.

I took them off because I fitted R6 5sl front forks instead, as it was more of a stealth-mod:
http://fazer1000.yuku.com/topic/4229/R6-forks-non-USD-for-Gen1

I thought the R1 forks performed great, but then they always would outstrip my abilities on the road.
PM some of the various members on the Fazer sites who have done the mod for their opinions start with Mike :-D
IMO they transform the bike's handling, but at the end of the day it's still a Fazer with a bendier frame than a sportsbike....you'll keep them in sight, tho

They are on ebay due to the lack of interest on this site. If they don't sell i'll get the forks seals replaced, new fork oil  & split the various parts on ebay, I'm sure there are plenty of fast R1 trackday riders who would use them, which is where they originally came from...

Finally, about the price - add up how much to do this front-end mod with a standard pair of R1 forks.... or, if you decide to sell this setup on, how much would you actually lose?

kebab,

I am not sure if its lack of interest or lack of money in these uncertain times, 500 quid represents 15-25% of most peoples Gen 1's. If I hadn't just spent 300 notes having my front and rear serviced by MTC I may have had a punt.

Good luck with the sale.

You could well be right, times are indeed financially hard.
I'm reducing my Fazer stuff (and other stuff) as the other half has stated that I'm one of those compulsive hoarder-types and she wants some room in the loft / shed / garage back. I've committed the cardinal sin of admitting that I may have slightly more hardware than I need :-D

Also, this is a mod that only appeals to some owners, and the Ohlins setup to an even smaller minority, hence advertising it to a wider audience.
