I'd be pushing the insurers to up their offer to £4250 for a replacement, and walk away from this one.

I was in 2 minds but I had also spent £1100 on the bike having a full service new chain and sprockets a new front tyre brakes and some other bits done 3 days before their accident so was loathed to loose that as well .

£1100  :eek I maybe out of touch with dealer costs as I do everything myself (thanks to this forum ) But sprocket set £120 tyre £120, Oil and filter/ spark plugs-not much cost, brakes what did you have done - new pads ?
I just cant see how it all adds up to £1100. I understand your your reason for being in two minds spending that much just 3 days before :'( .

Same here, I bought a tyre machine and balancer so I could do my own and do the oil and filter changes too. However, I've got to that age where I don't want to be treating a bike to bits to check valve clearances and getting to the plugs is just as hard so mine goes in every 18 months for a top end service which runs at around 550gbp.

The valve clearances where done and a gear indicator fitted .
When I get it back it will be my second /winter bike as I've decided to buy a new bike .

How many valves did they adjust I wonder?

As the bill for the work is suggesting they had to adjust or rather change the shim/s or pads as Yam refer to them as.  It takes about an hour and half say 2 for comfort to remove the cam cover and check the clearances.
