hi guys just got my s2 recently , just wondered if you really need a oil filter tool for removal or are they generally hand tight ?  the old fzs was hand tight so i havent got a tool but if its difficult to get good access hands on to the s2 filter and if one is needed? if so ill get one prior to oil & filter change

Theoretically they are only hand tight but with heat cycles of the engine I always find mine (FZ8) is too tight to undo by hand and even then a tool like a filter wrench (chain type) can crush it before undoing it.
I have found the cup type do the job right. Quick easy and well worth 7 quid

Yep me too. Make sure you get the right one for the flats on the filter. I've had to get two, one for the Fazer and a different one for my Triumphs.

I second (well, third) the cup-type of tool.

Yes, you can shove a screwdriver through the old one and lever it off, but that's messy and inelegant!

Sometimes you get by with a big rubbery garden glove, to gain you enough purchase on it to unscrew by hand. But, as with many jobs things are much easier if you've got the right tools for the job. ;-)

Make sure you get one which fits the filter you are using. On some models the OEM and Pattern have slightly different sized tools

Surely the best thing to do is to try and get your hand in to see what the access is good or bad.   Hands come in many sizes  ;)
