Thanks for the info, I will get one then I think. I dont know anything about the "names" in walking/ climbing gear but think 50% of the cost is just for the name.
I’ve got Icebreaker tops and long johns. They are top notch but yeah they have built their brand status and know how to charge. I use em for hill walking and on the bike.
They come in different weights, light, medium and heavy. They are 100% pure merino. Unlike other wools it’s really nice against your skin. It’s not the most breathable stuff, and it can get sopping wet with your sweat but still stays warm – though that isn’t a problem on the bike.
I’ve also got smart wool socks, another big-name merino wool brand.
The stuff ain’t cheap. But it does last years – though sometimes the socks go hard with repeated washing. So I don’t wash them too often, and always as wool at low temp.
Nice thing about pure merino is you can sweat like a pig in it, wear it day after day and it doesn’t smell bad.
Dunno what the Aldi stuff will be like. But you will find bargains in Icebreaker and Smartwool come the spring.
