« on: 25 March 2017, 08:58:02 pm »
You can pick up some 10w40 semi synth oil (the stuff that our fazers like) mega cheap at the 'Home Bargains' discount chain.
it's £2 a litre. Yes! £2 a litre!  :thumbup

  • 4 years ago I had this discussion on here and decided to be the Guinea pig to try it out.
  • 4 years and several oil changes later, i can confirm it is absolutely fine, and a good price too.
[added to the op as I figured it would be usefull info - biker]

It was cheaper than the big brands, by a British firm called Westway Lubricants. Thought i'd try the fully synthetic stuff for a change and i will probably only buy that from now on.

Having looked at the Label of my bargain basement oil it seems it is in fact a product of the EU. Unfortunately I can't change the name of the thread to reflect this.
Nice of you to flag the british flag for North Sea oil darrsi, but a bargain is a bargain!

Will this oil remove the "clonk" sound from the gearbox?

No, you need earplugs for that  :)

Adjusting the clutch cable properly at both ends can help with that, but, even more so, just roll the bike forwards a few inches as you put it into first gear and it won't "clonk" anywhere near as bad.

Presumably they have to sell it very cheap because of the "Sell By" date on the container. I can't imagine it being a "Use By" date with sealed oil.

The FZS600 is very picky when it comes to chain tension. do it exactly as per the handbook (35mm IIRC) and the clonk all but disappears.

I tried looking on their website… the search tool is a joke.
“Motorcycle” yielded no hits, as did “motor”.
“Oil” brought up a couple of dozen items ranging from perfume and cat food to sunscreen and a loo seat. :lol

+1 on the great find

I've just ordered 5 ltr of 10 40 semi syn car oil for £10.99 for what will become chain lube after flushing out swarf from the ZZR's sump (sump plug need tapping) And was considering getting similar to fill it with after although after seeing your link I think I'll go with that.

Found this article thats worth a read re using car oils in motorcycle engines.

Same here. Someone told my wife you could order stuff online and collect in your local store. None of the local places have that oil and I can't find it on line at Home Bargains either.

I spotted it instore when I was out shopping with the missus & kids, must be a job lot and not a regular stocked item. Might be worth a walk in  :)  The actual shop is the company in pic, not to be confused with B&M which is similar.

"None of the local places have that oil" there's a Home Bargains right next door to where my wife works - no luck, nor in Gloucester.

Hi I only bought it on Saturday afternoon, there was probably another half dozen bottles on the shelf. It might be worth emailing them to see if they have it in stock or can get it for you.

In Russian it says:

Motorcycle oil suitable for wet clutches and catalytic converters.  No problem using it in a Fazer.

But in the original Russian half the letters are back to front
