Sumer Cider Anyone?

What's your preference cider wise? Also, when did we change the name of Perry to pear cider? Perry has been common for centuries in UK, particularly in Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire, also in South Wales and France. I don't accept this as a name for the traditional drink. what's best?

Any other after that as long as its not too dry, I will give it a go.

Apple only though. Anything other than Apple is not Cider.


and Perry became Pear Cider to fit in with the numpties that liked their "Fruit Cider" but thought Perry was something their nan drank.

Used to be a nice selection of proper cider in my local supermarket.
Now the shelfs are full of Stella Artois pish and this falvoured shite.
Still at least they still stock Westons Vintage, but that's about it in terms of proper cider.

cider's not normally my thing until we found drayman's  son micro pub in Ely they serve all sorts of cider and beer straight from the barrel.Ive tried the pickled pig ,spinney Abbey and Cromwell's.All good stuff

White lightening either straight or 50/50 with Tennents super and a dash of blackcurrant (vodka).

Clearly I have no class when it comes to cider and much prefer the fizzy, light sweet ones (like aspels, magners and strongbow) to the cloudy mildly cheesy tasting micro-brewery stuff.

Not a big cider drinker but I do sometimes enjoy Henry westons vintage 8.2%
The other day I have a smernoff cider - it was some sort of no name cider with passion fruit and lime flavour with smirnoff vodka and the whole lot was 4% - what a joke these things are just alcopops by any other name.

Had a couple of pints of Rosy Pig (or summat like that) the other week.

Literally flat alcoholic apple juice. was a wobbly ride home on the push bike especially when the wife fell off in the bushes

If you drink Thatchers for example, then have a pint or two of Strongbow, you realise how much of a chemical taste the Strongbow has.
Strongbow can also give you some nasty hangovers and also make your body generally ache the next day, whereas Thatchers doesn't.

Stowford press, now there's a good cider. I'm not a big fan of scrumpy, had a bad experience once after several pints of black rat, never again.

There is also a difference between the traditional Perry and pear cider
Also not forgetting Perry was one of few alcoholic beverages under 18's were allowed to consume in a licensed premises with a meal!

Also agree dry is the way forward and anything other than apple cider is alco pop as far as I'm concerned.

You lot heard of RObinsons, a local to us producer, cloudy cider, it's fantastic. We have Henry Weston, Bulmers here in Herefordshire,,brought up on it and I still get headaches but the voices make me drink it

however if you are down Cornwall & see  Grandma's Weapons Grade Ginger Beer!! try it but DO NOT DRIVE!!!

Aspalls Premier Cru, or Henry Westons Oak Aged Vintage are my favourites at the moment (Aspalls coming out slightly on top).


Best ever cider I've had was 30-odd years ago, home made by some friends from Kilchberg in south west Germany (just outside the heart of the Black Forest - they called it something like "Moerscht"), bloody gorgeous it was !!!!!!
