Ok Guys 'n' Girls, I have made my own chain riveting tool thanks to Youtube for some ideas  :lol  Now as i like to do as much of my own work on my bike as i can (I'm a tight Foccer!) I have added a couple of pics & i just want to ask you if you think that it'll do the job!!! :eek :eek :eek

Thank you for your opinions in advance   :D :D

It might work. Those generic chain tools have presses that fit 5/8 chain sideplates properly so the process does not deform the sideplates or crush the o-rings. I tend to only use a chain tool to withdraw the pins from a rivet on the chain I am replacing (having ground the tops off) and to press the new link on (I wonder if your tool will do this). To peen the pins over on the new soft link I put a heavy hammer behind it and use a punch to peen 4 edges over, I then check with a caliper the peening has worked and the sideplate is secure.

I have a tool to push the sideplate on, i made this as the link supplied is a hollow ended & i am hoping that this will open (flange) the pins out, obviously i will check with a vernier caliper as to make sure its enough to make it safe!  :eek

Or instead of riveting you can use the duct tape directly with the chain. Problem solved.
