Went to hell some 10 years after Tito died. But it doesn't mean it was bad - quite the contrary.
As far as welfare state goes: if any politician provided free education for my kids and free health care, along with full employment, I'd be more than happy to give all the savings - what would I need them for? A bit oversimplifying, but that's the point.
P.S. just in order to get things straight: I really have nothing against the English. Quite familiar (as a foreigner) with English history, tradition. I love English literature. Grew up listening to English music (punk rock and oi mostly). Films. Rather sensible and technical nation (I know it's a generalization, but if I had to make one, that would be it). Just being a part of this forum for years - minimal flame and bollocks, loads of good tips, discussions and humour. That is another thing I love - at least from here, we have a name for English humour: "English humour". Monty Pythons for example.
There's a big music festival in my city every summer, Exit festival.
http://www.exitfest.org/enEnglish youth that come to that festival generally behave quite arrogantly. Going semi-naked in flip flops through the city centre, sleeping drunk in the street, showing no respect for local customs. Talked to a lad that was arrested for drug possession. He was fined few hundred euros and let go. And he was all out "how dare they hassle me, they kept me in custody all night, made ma pay the fine in the morning, I missed the whole festival day!?!" I asked him if drugs were illegal in England and would the police have let him immediately in England, with just a fine?
I also met a lot of cool English, mostly those motorcycling through Serbia, one working here for a while.
I was also impressed with Scotland fans when they came to play against Serbia! They helped clear the pitch of snow so that the match is not postponed
Very good atmosphere, cheering, before and after the match. No breaking the city or doing stupid hooligan stuff.
Scottish, Irish and Russians are also very good to drink with. English and Germans get too drunk too quickly and loose control of themselves, misbehaving. I know it's a generalization, but that's been my experience from the people coming here.
What I don't like is imperialism though. Blaming refugees for terrorism and economic problems is wrong IMO - those people should be welcomed and helped.
