These are the connections you really need to make sure are sound and not loose.
(and the male side that goes into the red plug that I never took a pic of)

the nightbreaker is about the same distance just a bit whiter.

youre only using 35w and brighter than my 55w.. something is definately wrong. and its a cheapy chinese one too by the look of the writing.

i have 2 of those wires for the ballast too..

i cant work out what it could be ...

i think im going to disconnect my mobility scooter battery and try using it to power the hid in the bike see how it goes... that will tell me if its power or something else.

Yeah, 35w ballast is what I've got, I thought it was 55w tbh but still bright and sharp beam pattern.

Was out with my mate and his was a bit temperamental, we discovered that the red block connector had a connection loose, hence the reason I said to check everything :)

Are you getting enough power at the light switch on the handlebars? If they're a bit iffy that won't help either, also I've got the dual light mod but my connections are sound, maybe worth checking that too, the more power drawing from your light system might be a problem too. Try disconnecting your spot lights completely to see if that improves your HID on it's own :)

disconnected spots even though they only come on with main beam and no difference.

i removed the sidelight bulb too, and no change.

ill get my volt meter out and see what im getting from the switch, it still does the same if im taking it straight from the battery too which is weird.

I also noticed, looking back at the pic of your ballast your using, that yours doesn't have the 'black box', I was lead to believe that you need this to boost power from 12v to the 23000v needed for the HID's

Thats my old ballast that went pop, my new one has a box on it the same as yours.

Do you know how the power should go to the bulbs? if its a steady current or pulses?

When my bulb went a while back i didnt realise it was all powered up still and i unplugged the bulb and got a pulsing current like a spark plug zapping me repeatedly.. was pretty painful!

Yes it pulses as my mate and I found out while trying to sort his out and yes I agree, painful :eek

Unless you've got a spare ballast or bulb it's hard to check which one isn't working correctly, you can get a spare ballast here http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=321767419057&alt=web or I could maybe send you my spare one to try it and see how you go with it?

Ok so just tried direct to my mobility scooter battery... 12v 22ah! heated up fine as normal and then started flickering like it does with my normal battery..

tried different wiring and no joy.

still not brighter and flickers still...

must be the ballast ive been through like 7 bulbs trying.

Two choices mate,
Either send it to me or I send you my spare one to try?
Mind you, trying it on YOUR mobility scooter raises more questions than answers!  :pokefun

So I managed to get some pics in the dark.
1st dipped beam HID
2nd full beam not HID
3rd dipped beam HID
4th full beam not HID

Remember, I'm running a HID on my dipped beam on the nearside but on the H4 (offside) it's just an osram nightbreaker.

yeah.. mines not even 1/4 of that!

what battery do you have how many ah?

how is yours wired? the 2 spade connectors into the headlight plug and thats it?

if so thats the same as mine...

i must have a dodgy ballast...

no point you sending me a bulb or ballast to test itll be the same price to post as buying one on ebay

also your high beam is 10x better than mine....

what the hell is going on with my headlights!!

ive tried a 100w bulb in main and its not even that bright!

Just realised your ballast is dc > ac, googlings leads me to believe dc = crap.

i need to check my 35w non slim non digital ballast im sure thats ac and that didn't flicker i don't think

A good HID kit uses the headlight connector element for switching the HID on and selecting high/low beam. There should be a separate power cable from the battery to actually power the ballast unit.

Don't know, I'll need to check

Yes, plus all the ballast wires

Possibly

Don't really know tbh

ive tried a 100w bulb in main and its not even that bright!

It's got to be dc voltage to the ballast, then that gives the ac voltage to the bulb
Now
i need to check my 35w non slim non digital ballast im sure thats ac and that didn't flicker i don't think
but did it give you better brightness/power to the bulb?

my 35w ballast is dc aswell so no dc > ac which could explain the flicker and weak lighting...

need to find an ac ballast that is a real ac and not just a sticker.

I don't think mine say dc - ac (I'll check later tonight) but it's purely knowledge that I say it should be, your normal lights are just dc but put on something like a HID where it needs to change voltage it then becomes ac, so your input is dc to that unit but ac after it.

see above
