Depends what you prioritise with bike ownership I think.....Is it all about the riding.....or is it actually a big part about tarting them up, obviously you enjoy riding, not saying you don't but just that you maybe need more than just riding from a bike ie you enjoy the hobby side of improving and fettling.

believe it or not I personally prefer the riding part but I just get stuck in a rut and have more been forced into fettling through poor choices because I usally aint got a foccing clue what im doing :lol

FZ1 defo a funny one.....it just isn't quite there where you think woaw it's a keeper...iMO of course.......but for me now it is cheap fun and because mine isn't the cleanest then actually I can just get out on it and abuse it a bit which is good.

you will lose allot of money that's for sure but if you weigh it up and it is worth the hobby value then so be it.

id like to try a K5 with a high bar conversion but tbh I struggle being a bit squashed on the fz1 so getting more squashed isn't on my agenda.

I can see noggy getting on with a Gen1.... but coming from the Gen2 (with it's higher power and FI) is probably not the best way to do it unfortunately... you never know...

If you get out to the LoFo meet you are welcome to try out my Gen1 :D (has high-bars, full monty and R6 shock)

Yeah what did you think?
I've got a K8 at the moment which I've had for about 6 years, awesome machine  :evil
Only thing that I wasn't overkeen on is that the engine is a little on the noisy/tappety side which bugged me a bit, but they all seem to be about the same.
Oh well, it's fast as fook, handles superbly and hasn't let me down or blown up......bonus!  :lol

Looks like the fz1 is staying for now. few things really. My bike has been looked after gsxr had 20 thou less on the clock but would never have known. Would have taken me  a year to strip down powder coat all the bits that needed doing.

Pros
Power
Cornering speed

Cons
Brakes are absolute shite.
Build quality

I'm surprised you reckon the brakes are shite, they've always been a strong point on Gixers, but from the sounds of it the bike hasn't been looked after.

As for build quality, mine's pretty good for a Jap bike but it is a few years newer and I do look after it. (OCD  :lol )
In my experience Jap components are prone to looking poor pretty quickly if not looked after, compared to more exotic (read expensive) Italian or German bikes.

You don't sound overly enthused but i suppose part o the problem is that youve owned 2 cracking big capacity bikes recently and thats a hard act to follow for any bike.

Imo it will have to be something radically different like a big supermoto type affair maybe.........anything else you fancy trying out then?

i had a k6 (same as k5) and i loved it. build quality is typical suzuki. The bike handled and went like stink. The reason i sold it for a tuono v4 was i couldn't get the most out of it. It would bomb along at 140 (on a race track ;) ) and i could make a sandwich on the tank. It was that easy to ride at daft speeds. I find that it isn't necessarily the top speed you get to, but the enjoyment of the grunt out of bends and the character of the bike you ride. I'm sure i could ride my k6 faster than my v4, but the ride was utterly bland in comparison.
