What is the name of this part...

...the little rubber caps on top of the carbs where you would plug a carb tuner in?


After running beautifully since I got her the bike suddenly was running rough one morning when I started her up and kept backfiring on the overrun from high revs. Spent a few weeks trying to work out the problem then looked along where the choke operation is on the top of the engine and saw one of the resident mice who live in my shed had nibbled through one of the rubber caps on top of the carbs!


Plugged it with blu tac and it's running fine again but I don't know what the part is called to order it?


Any help would be much appreciated. Oh and I've murdered around 20 mice in revenge since.

It's an inlet rubber vacuum blanking cap.

Just read the info on the link, interesting - did you do the whole linking thing with the T pieces or just connect up the 2 sets of carbs? What differences have you found?

Be careful doing it with bluetac mate -  there's suction on those tubes, and I'd hate to think what would happen it it got sucked into the engine!

I did the whole mod linking all the carbs including adding an additional 'T' piece in the manifold to connect the AIS feed...

The bike seems to start easier, runs smoother and a bit more responsive.... :-)

If you do the 4 way cross over be careful which t pieces you use, as it will make a difference on how the bike runs, I used first some t pieces from halfords which had a small internal size, then I bought some VW fuel pipe t pieces which are bigger internally and that made a difference, for the better.

I used the same internal diameter piping and 'T' pieces as instructed on the link. Seems to work a treat... ;-)

Big thanks for the info everyone - much appreciated. Yeah I do appreciate it's a bit daft plugging with blu tac but did my utmost to make sure it's solid enough and will get the part (now I know what it is) asap.

Re the mod - my bike is so standard it's still on the oem exhaust and though it's dangerously quiet and the size of an RPG, I'm tempted to keep it that way as the fuelling is so beautiful. Call me a sissy but I don't think I need more power, not for the road anyway.
