wat are peoples opinions on sat navs on the bike are they easy to use /not worth the hassle/ to expensive and wats the best model to go for very tempted to pick one up so i can have it tell me where to go ......any info would be appreciated

I just use my smartphone. It does everything, including what a satnav doesn't.
You do need to adapt your gloves for touchscreens though, not difficult.

I've been using TomTom Rider V2 for the last 5 years or so and it's invaluable, an instruction in the headset, a quick glance at the display so you can see where it's directing you and then you can concentrate on the traffic around you and the junction instead of having to peer at signs to figure out where you're trying to go

Another vote here for the smart phone and an ear-peice, let her speak softly in your ear while you ride around doing exactly as she says
 
although it is a bit concerning when she goes quiet for a while... how long do you risk going straight ahead before stopping to check its not died on you?!

I use a Garmin Nuvi 2445 and Garmin Basecamp software, plot an interesting route, upload to the nav and off I go.

Get a Bluetooth receiver for your lid, then ye shall hath museek wherever thou goes!
 Fitted mine last year, cant ride without it now.

Ive got an old navigo 3.5 with tt europe software and e generic handlebar clamp. used if for years now , not waterproof but you pays yer money etc .invaluable. I find it hard to switch back to normal , watching signpost mode though , navigate one way or the other don't try to do both at once.

TomTom on the end to end trip was flawless, especially the twisty road function (not included in standard tomtom's)


But also used my car satnav in a waterproof case from fleabay got me to the dragon rally with no issues at all!

If I want someone to tell me where to go I just speak to the wife she always seems happy to suggest whereI could go!!

On longer trips and for touring I would not be without one.  My current on the Garmin Zumo 660 and I am very pleased with it.  Avoid the Zumo 550 though as the cradle has a design fault - it's not waterproof!!!

My Zumo 660 is my stereo for local trips, satnav for longer ones.

Never had a problem with my 550, and it's seen some very wet stuff!

I try not to get caught in the rain but my 550 has been OK so far.
