Motorbike gear from Aldi
« on: 09 March 2014, 06:18:52 pm »
Anyone know if any of the gear in Aldi is worth getting? I'm thinking particularly about the boots. Anyone had any experience of this kit?

Bought a pair of the gloves today and rode to work in them this afternoon, they seem ok for now.
The baselayer kit is really good, had mine for a while.

Never tried the boots but couldnt resist a peep at the flip front lids while weekly shopping  :lol .. One already out the box so while checking how flip mechanism actually works, the front came adrift one side in my hand  :eek ... On a positive note tho the socks werent bad  ;)

Use a pair of gloves I got a few years back, very comfy and not too bad in winter.

Have avoided boots so far, mainly because of their looks, especially the 'sportier' ones. Other stuff, socks etc seem to be fairly good.

You get what you pay for, I'd be happy with the base layer and gloves, anything where more substantial safety is required (helmet, boots) I wouldn't!

Got a pair of the boots last year but don't wear them much (prefer my shorter BKS). But they seem OK for the money.

But is ok for the money actually ok? When I was sitting in A&E last December nursing a broken toe my bargain £60 soft as shite boots didn't seem that much of a bargain.  :\

Best thing I've learned to do is completely ignore prices and go purely off protection, quality and comfort. In that order.

Picked up a couple of alarm padlocks, the bigger one of the two is big enough to use as a disc lock and is LOUD!!!

Hadn't spotted them. Or the LED light things. Might have to go to Aldi now.

Why would you want to see the number plate under a cover though ?

I think the see through numberplate panel is more a continental thing where the authorities issue the plate as part of a road tax scheme and you have to display the plate at all times if the bike is parked on a public road

When do these offers end? Or were they only valid for Sunday?

I'm tempted by the jeans too. I paid double that for mine 6 or 7 months ago. I wonder if the armour is CE rated?

Its removable pockets so you can always upgrade, there are pockets for thigh armour as well.

Well so far the stand seems okay, i was only expecting it to lift the rear but it has different parts so you can use it on the front too. Will see how it holds out when under the weight of a bike

bought a pair of jeans too, far too long for me when not sat on a bike... hmm

i bought a pair of boots and they are prety comfy, i have wide feet and most makes are a bit narrow for me. the boots have a toe box and hard bits at the heel and shin. i dont want to be the first to crash test them though.they should see me through the summer at least so 30 quid well spent.

Just a note on the jeans. they are very long in the legs so the armour is pointless cos it wont be where you need it when you need it.  Take it out and use proper gear when you go fast and the jeans for town stuff.
