I stopped watching it ages ago. Its not a motoring programme any more.

l agree with you there Chris, it has very little to do with motoring these days, just lots of  tom foolery and vandalism by 3 overpaid uninformative pranksters  :rolleyes

Really enjoyed tonight's episode (episode 2). Not too much titting about, lovely camera shots, nice cars and an entertaining guest.

I caught most of it. Loved James May's piece. I think he got the tone just right.

If my Golfs had been in decent condition, I would probably still be driving them now :P

My total car history goes something like;

Peugeot 106
Peugeot 306 (Blew up...)
Peugeot 106 (Yup, same one)
Golf Mk2 GTi (Gave up on life)
Golf Mk2 GTi (Gave up on life before I bought it :\ )
MG ZS 180 Saloon (Current Car)

The only 3 I bought were the two Golfs and the MG. The most expensive was the first Golf at £500 :P

Seen your MG in person, very nice, if that cost less than £500 that was a stonking deal. Was it priced low because of the gearbox issue?

I paid £460 for the MG - though when I bought it, it couldn't go backwards... hence the low price

Still, I paid £90 for a second hand gearbox and fitted it myself, so even then it only comes to £550 - plus there was nothing wrong come MOT time, unlike the Golfs...

Anyone remember The Word on Channel 4 in the 90's? Bag of shit but you still had to watch it when you rolled in pissed from the pub. The latest generation of Top Gear is just like that.

And Jeremy Clarkson is the Alf Garnett of automotive journalism IMO, amusing as long as you don't actually believe anything he says.

I quite enjoyed this evenings episode - probably the best of the series so far... plus I do find Chernobyl fascinating

The Zenvo. If the reliability wasn't an issue and money aside, I'd probably have one. I liked it, it was mad and a bit old-fashioned tech wise, but I prefer that to the high tech gadgetry of say, a Ferrari. In fact, the only Ferrari I would ever consider is the California... which is quite far-fetched for a Ferrari considering the list of "firsts" it achieved, including its front engined V8

Ye i was into tonights episode and the soviet era stuff like chernobyl and the old submarine and missile bases was genuinely interesting (theres a recent river monsters episode where he fishes at Chernobyl deadeye ;) ).

Plus they hinted that they realise people want to see more normal car reviews and seeing the small car review is a step in the right direction i reckon.

That Zenvo rocked! Old school supercar styling, that new Lambo was just too boring!

Yeah, I do agree with what they said about the new Lambo, BUT we do have to remember that this is a Gallardo replacement - its not the top of their range so its not surprising and with Audi behind the scenes it wouldn't surprise me if some of the design team may have influenced the calmer design.

Yeah really enjoyed last nights episode too. Episode 2 and 3 of this series seem to have got a good balance of interesting information, Awesome cars I'll never be able to afford and a bit of titting about. Hope the rest of the series is like that!

So, it has to be asked; which would you prefer? The Porsche 918 Spyder or the McLaren P1?

Personally... I'm preferring the P1, BUT I've never really liked Porsche's

The new hybrid technology being developed is incredibly fascinating though - the fact that the 918 produces less CO2 under normal driving than a Prius is quite impressive. Once this technology boils down the technology tree to standard family cars, it will be a huge step forward.

On a personal note, I'm beginning to really want to get on with the work on my car, as the new gearbox I have for it has an LSD which should hopefully transform its performance - I was talking to a friend this week about it who was talking about how much better it would feel and then the clips from tonight with the Golf GTi reminded me... obviously I doubt it's going to be as impressive as the Golf, but still :P

The Prius is a dirty emissions car compared to a normal car when it is running on petrol due to the extra weight it has to lug around.
The Golf looked good though and as for the public information films :rollin

Nah...

after further research, it wasn't me you heard. I rode past them before or perhaps after they were having the cup of tea!

And I know it wasnt me as at the time my bike was sounding like a V8. With no exhaust. Firing on 3 cylinders!!
