Yes and thats my point in knowing my speed without always looking as I also know what 4k revs ar 7k reves sound and feel like
I don't do rain or threat there of. dry rider only with no shame.

Its not ability.  If I am in town I check my speedo.  If I am on open roads I ride the bike.  Knowing if I am in 4th or 5th is irrelevant and knowing if I am going 50 or 90 isn't important. 
 
Knowing that I am going at the right speed for the corner is what I am looking for and that the engine is spinning enough to get the rush out is important.  Neither of these involve speedos or gear indictor, just feel.
Ask me how fast I have been down the Chelveston bends or what gear I was I wouldn't know cos there are a lot more important things to think about, or watch out for, than a set of gauges
