Touring the continent next year?

Just been browsing the inter web getting some ideas together for a possible European tour next year, and have seen the euro tunnel have a half price sale on with prices at about £23 each way. I don't know if it's normal price but thought I'd share!!

across the channel for me next summer aswell  ...so do you need to book the tunnel or can you just turn up ?....not sure what day i`ll be coming back

Dover - Calais is about 45mins.

With the ferry, you can just turn up and take the next available sailing? What about the tunnel - pre-book only? Don't want to have to book anything if possible. Have to stay with bike on the train? In short, which is best, and why?

Its pre book so far for us,,dont know if you can turn up and purchase a ticket.


We are looking at the possibility of riding to see a moto gp in Brno,Chec its so what have you, three stops , lots of riding ,,you up for it?

the ferry is 1hr30   the seacat was quicker but i  believe no longer runs from Dover.

Juth been looking at the tunnel half price offer, I think that is for day trips only. Don't turn up at the place to buy a ticket on the day, I did it once when i had to return early and it was £100. ±2 hours from your booked time is fine, no charge, but they might not have space on the next train. Recently they seem to have less space as they might run 3 trains per hour if they aren't busy, and fill the trains up.

PS, if you don't know what day you will be returning, just book a couple of days before when you know for sure. You only need the booking reference to check in, you don't need a ticket. For ease I've used the tunnel for the past 6 years, but it is slightly more expensive. The trains have been in use for a long time and seem to be wearing out. The last 2 or 3 times there have been delays due to mechanical failure. Sometimes its been very quick. Turn up at Calais, check in on the next train, no passport check, waved straight through the holding area, down the ramp onto the train, doors closed and we were off. 5 minutes from turning up to leaving

If the price is right I think I'll be booking it for my week off in June, it's not much to loose if I can't make it! Got the travel bug after the end to end.

Looking on PO Ferries for one leg of a return trip there are 3 options

Saver £20 You must travel on your booked sailings.. Outside of this you will be required to pay the difference between your ticket for that leg of the journey and the price on that day for the new sailing (NB. Prices on the day of departure typically start from £90 each way)

Flexi £40  Travel on any sailings within 4 hours of your booked sailing, subject to available space.. otherwise its as above


Flexi Extra £37.50 Travel on the first sailing with space available at no charge .. † Unless changing season or to a peak date.

4 for a penny and then 2.

According to my local 'corner' shop it was 4 for a penny for the first 10p worth, then 2 there after. Unless you were buying fruit salads at the same time, then you could only have half and half.
