Speedo adjustments????
« on: 14 July 2013, 08:37:12 am »
Hi all, might as wel start another new topic for this one.... As some of you may know I bought my Fazer with a new engine hanging in it, so I fixed it up but wasn't able to do anything with the speedo yet,
The bike was originally from Europe I think... But was brought into uk and some messer slapped a very horrible and lumpy mph face on the clocks,
Now with the new engine in I have a clock in klms a lumpy face in mph and no proper mileage for new engine,

For the sake of it the bike at the min has 106025klms  :eek on clock and the new engine has about 16,000 miles

That'll be a tricky one for you.
I think you can pay to have clocks readjusted to match the bikes proper mileage but i would imagine you would need proof of mileage for your bike, as in previous M.O.T. certificates.
And there is your problem.......bikes don't get M.O.T.'d in Ireland!!

Is the mileage memory stored in the clocks or in the bikes brains?

I do believe on our (older bikes) its stored in the clocks which means you can buy a 2nd hand set (with lower mileage on) and swap the instrument cluster.

I think newer BMW's store it in the bikes brains- I heard of a guy that did similar stupid miles to me but wanted to sell the bike on with lower mileage, bought a brand new set of clocks off BMW (£350+) plugged it in, turned the bike on and *zing* clocks all flicked to correct current mileage!  Haha, serves him right for trying to con someone!

Only problem is finding a clock with a little over 16,000 miles on it, I don't think any mileage is kept on the engine itself and everything on the speedo is done through the front wheel, pity the new engine didn't come with clocks aswel :-(. But the exact mileage was written on the clutch cover so that's what I'm going on,

If I go to sell it it going to take some explaining and whipping out the calculator lol. :\

Would like to calculate it and get someone with a computer to plug in and put the right mileage on it, but don't know anyone in Ireland to do it

Thanks for that, hope they can do something, 100-150 quid for even the old almera cars, nothing about bikes on the site but will ask
