FZ1 seat mod - south West
« on: 15 July 2013, 06:42:01 pm »
As most people know the FZ1 isn't the most comfortable seat in the world and I was getting quite a numb bum after 80-100 miles or so - I didn't fancy shelling out £200+ for a gel seat

In Highbridge (Burnham On Sea) there is a chap called Mark (Facebook Saddlesoreted) who basically put memory foam in my seat on top of GE existing foam (cut out to take it - doesnt look any diff from standard)

Was only £35 so wasn't expecting miracles but it is very good compared to standard seat - quite considerably more comfy. It's probably not as good as a larger foam more expensive seat but I am impressed!

Cool! You'll have to put a link on here, I bet he could do with more buisness.

He doesn't have a website, he is on Facebook if you do a search for 'Saddlesoreted' it will pop up with his details (contact, address etc)

The true test of the seat will be my trip to Cologne and around Germany on Sunday... Will let you know (over 1000 miles in the saddle over 6 days lol) a good test of the FZ1!

Ill look forward to your report bud. I have to wear padded cycling shorts atm, and they allow a bit of respite from my sore arse. I can do about 150 miles wearing them compared to just 100 miles without.

The trouble is that the cycling shorts feel like I'm wearing a nappy, and looks like I've shit myself! :)):))

I tried the official Yamaha Gel seat. It was rubbish. Straight back on flea bay.

I used an upholsterer in Buckley, North Wales. He put layers of different density over the original foam. I had the pillion seat done as well because he recoverd the seats and couldnt match the original.
we toured Spain this year for three weeks and nearly 4000 miles with no bum ache at all
He charged 70.00 for both well worth it.

Upholsterer  commented "when will you lot realise that gel seats dont work"
