broke down
« on: 26 June 2013, 11:51:11 pm »
out on my 53 plate 1000cc the night, after putting it on the road
filled it with fresh fuel, went a run done about 90 mile all fine,
then on overrun it popped 3 or 4 times back though exhaust, then cut out
checked all conections all seemed fine, let it sit for a bit tried again it started but as soon as you try to rev it cuts out
any common faults, sticky floats??

Will it take a small amount of throttle, if you're careful?

Define 'putting it on the road'.  Has it been laid up for a while (how long?) and did you do anything else apart from adding fresh fuel?

Did you forget to close the choke?

it aint been out since last june
I`d done 70-80 mile with fresh fuel an choke of before this happened
is throttle position sensor the culprit as some sites say
I`d had the front r1 forks off an back on that's it
kill switch cant be problem as it wont turn over when switched
same with side stand switch

If it's been standing for a year, my first thought is the carbs and the rest of the fuel system will need checking and cleaning.

Check also that the battery is 100% charged and shows 12.5 - 12.7v across the terminals with the ignition on.

Shoot some electrical contact cleaner through all the switch gear and the body of the ignition switch.  Flush out any gunk which might have built up in there.

Have a read of this and check yours, too:  http://www.yamahafz1oa.com/eskortsdefectiveconnectorreplacement.shtml

TPS failures are rare and you'd expect to get a 3k error code on the tacho.

Assume nothing is OK without actually checking it.  When you have it fixed, don't leave it a year between rides again. :)

Good luck,

Mike

well finaly got a chance to get stuck in about fazer the night
cleaned every plug kept checking if it would start nothing
had tps off all fine same with kill switch and side stand switch, wanted to rule everything out
found by chance that ingnition switch was loose on further inspection noticed it had started to separate
took it off the bike altogether, and internal bolt`s had worked loose, so drilled out top of shear bolts to remove shroud, removed internal bolt`s threadlocked them refited, used small allen type bolts for now plugged back in and it burst into life

does anyone no whare I can get shear bolts?
