Hi, I'm new to the site and new to owning a Fazer.

Bought my 98 FZS600 from ebay with approx 38k on the clock in June and have since decided to change the chain and sprockets due to a slightly iffy looking link. Popped the sprocket cover off and the washer is ripped in half, as in the photo above, the nut is wobbling around loose and the drive shaft itself is stripped bare. The inside of the sprocket cover is banged up pretty bad... If I manage to get Yamaha to pay for anything at all, what's the chance of them replacing all the damaged bits - there has been no warranty work done on this bike at all - I checked with a dealer who denied there were any outstanding campaigns on this model.

Did anyone ever dig out that "Inspection Notice" in the end? I'm going to give Yam a call tomorrow, but would like to be fore-armed.

Cheers!

Hi I split this post out from a thread in the Articles section so that it would get a reply sooner. When he says "as in the photo above" he means the Lost your front sprocket and washer thread, which you can view from the articles menu under FZS600.

I measured my sprocket nut and found it to be 9mm thick so spoken to the local dealer and ordered a new nut/washer, It doesn't sound like yamaha are going to pay for it but at under £9 I'd rather replace it with a new one and not have the hassle of a buggered gearbox.
They said they were not aware of a problem but did have a fazer in last week with a clutch gone(according to AA), clutch stipped down to find no problem so they took the sprocket cover off, no nut! what a surprise.
I've left them a print off of the post about it but I don't suppose I will get my money back.

Is there any way I can find out if mine needs changing without taking bits off the bike? is there a list of effected frame numbers?

It's only a ten minute job to look, 5 cap head screws and 1 10mm hex bolt on the gear lingage, measure the thickness and put it back together.
