Green for the day!
« on: 03 April 2013, 08:33:07 pm »
Took my fazer to the shop today to have a new engine coolant temp sensor fitted after being told on the phone it would be done whilst I waited as I had previously told them I can not be without a bike.

When I arrived I was told I'd have to leave my bike over night! Long story short they gave me a ninja 300 with 106 miles on the clock.

It now has 168 miles on the clock as I made the most of the setting sun. It's light weight and handles great, soon gets to 90 too but doesbt have much left after that.

Fun :D

Looks pretty good, I imagine it gets pretty good fun and good MPG too but if you want a sportsbike then surely you'd go for a bigger capacity.. Like having a car that looks like a lambo and goes like a diesel fiesta... haha.

Hope you get your bike back soon!

It ain't a Fazer, but it sure looks good! I doubt my bike shop would lend me a Ninja - I don't think they'd even give me a bus pass!  :lol :lol

Now you know what poor sods like me have to face...  :'( :'( :'(

34.77 hp (25.93 kW) @ 11,000 rpm[1

With those figures a newly qualified rider cannot ride it. Why didn't they massage the figures a fraction more to open up a whole new market for the bike?

25kW is the limit for non-DAS people who passed before Jan 19th this year. The figures below say that newly qualified A2 riders can have a go though.

Licence categoryVehicles you can rideRequirements for licenceMinimum age
AMMopeds with speed range of 25 km/h to 45 km/hCompulsory basic training (CBT), theory test, practical test on all powered 2-wheeled moped16
AMSmall 3-wheelers (up to 50 cc and below 4 Kilowatt)Compulsory basic training (CBT), theory test, practical test16

I know, the bastards. And to boot, our beloved Fazers are no good for A2 license holders.

The Fazer 600 has a nominal power production of 95bhp. But 2 x 35kW = 93.872bhp. And knowing our current legislation, that 1.3 extra horsepower will be enough to prevent it from being rideable for new riders.

The scariest thought of all - two speeding tickets, and I won't be allowed to ride my Fazer, even after restest!  :'( :'(

Probably because they'd then have the rest of the market going "oh, it's a beginners bike..." and refusing to ride it!

A reduction of less than 1kW (0.93 to be precise) would make bugger all difference to the othger market but makes it more saleable to the likes of ChristoT who have the 25kW limit.
The advantage ChristoT (and my eldest have) is that under their licences, they CAN ride a bike that is restricted down from more than 2x the limit.

Indeed! I have a friend on a 2002 VFR800 - I think that produces about 110hp stock!!

Sure, but IMO it's a perception issue. If some lad sees that this bike is ok for "restricted" riders, he's likely to think "I want a big boys' bike" and go for something else, even though, as you mention, the power difference is negligable.

I'm not sure all of us young lads are quite that stupid...  :lol

I think you'll find that that bike is made for the new licensing laws which came into effect on January 19th

A2 motorcycle licence: At age 19 or over, you take a test on a motorcycle without sidecar of at least 395 cc with a power output of at least 25 kW but not exceeding 35 kW. If you pass, you may ride any motorcycle not exceeding 35 kW and with a power to weight ratio not exceeding 0.2 kW/kg.

Its to fill the gap from 125 to DAS 500cc pass.
