FZS1000 2002 model Rev Needle "jumping"

Hi all, i got a FZS1000 2002 Carb model rev needle issue. The video above is Youtube (might need sign-in) which i had upload
The issue is i had just over-hauled my bike & when got it back got this issue.
When ON the ignition:
1. Rev needle is normal
2. Start the engine, rev needle goes to ~4.5k RPM
3. Turn the throttle, needle goes to ~5.5k RPM
4. Engine running but no more throttle, needle goes to 0k RPM, then back to ~4.5k RPM. It will goes on like that.
 
What is the likely cause of the issue? Is the coil behind the rev needle spoilt that i have to change a new set of meter?

What do you mean by over-hauled?
This is a start point, but may be a dodgy connection

I think a little bit more clarification on what you mean by 'overhaul' is needed ??
 
During your 'overhaul' , have you had the speedo sensor or throttle position sensor disconnected ?
 
I shouldn't start to panick just yet. The sequence your rev counter is going through is just informing you that something requires attention. As stated, from the very helpful table above it could be either the 'Speedo sensor' or 'Throttle Position Sensor' as that seems to be what your revs are indicating.

Guys... his exup valve is stuck/sticking. The tacho needle movement is a diagnostic.

@ Mt23, service the exup valve (taking care not to sheer the 3x little M6 bolts) and the tacho diag will stop.

Hi guys, i had over-hauled means that i left my bike @ workshop with the mechanic to change all parts & components in the engine into new (cam-rods, seals, O-rings etc). That's the definition i used in my area (no offence to others)....definitely not lay-up.
i believe my mechanic did disconnect the speed sensor & EXUP valve but not the TPS as mentioned above. Will ask him to check again. But wanna ask again the meter is not faulty right?

Its extremely unlikely and ignore what I said about the exup valve. Untill I read the following thread - http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,5928.0.html I was unaware that you could get more than onne diag code from the tacho.

So going by the aforementioned thread it would suggest the tank sensor is unplugged. I only know of one eletrcical lead that connects to the tank, and that under the rear left hand side and has a little 2pin green connector.

EXUP fault code is 7000 rpm.  This is showing nearer 4000 rpm which is speed sensor.

Before anything else, check that the speed sensor wire is connected at the back of the motor.  It's a single wire and you should see it behind the swingarm connected to the sensor which is mounted in the crankcase behind the gearbox.

Not totally familiar with the thou, but I think it's a fault code rather than a faulty meter.
If it were OK before, and it isn't now (after the work has been done), I'd be taking it back to your mechanic to sort out.

As all mentioned, it might be the speed sensor issue so will ask the mechanic to have a thorough check on the wiring/connection...
 
I jus pray is not the meter faulty becos i search on ebay & there is only ~2 persons selling the meter stripped off from their FZS1000 too

Hi all, got the problem of the 4 diagnostic codes cleared but the Rev needle is not picking up smoothly.
Throttle to 3000rpm (ok) --> throttle more slowly --> needle "jerked to 3200rpm --> 3400rpm --> 3600rpm --> 4000rpm --> then needle moves smoothly
My mechanic said that most likely the magnetic coil behind the Rev needle is busted, & changing out new meter will be ok. So i wanna ask:

1. I want to switch analog to digital meter. And i found this brand, KOSO. Has anyone install/try/fix on to replace the analog meter?
2. What need to be done on the wiring system/by-passing the sensoror whatever so that the digital meter can function properly on my FZs?
Is there any more information to share with me?
