Well the bike not starting 2nd edition
« on: 25 February 2013, 07:21:12 pm »
Last week the bike has been starting perfect in the garage,

yesterday got all togged up in thermal kit went to the bike, pushed it out of the garage and pressed the start button.

Yellow engine light flashing, sonot starting, i stopped to save the battery,

Shit i thought, so did a couple of checks, sidestand switch, brake, clutch levers , put it in gear ,rocked it, took it out of gear, pressed the started and brrrmmmm

So it seems that when stationary and engine stopped something has the ability to cut the ignition, and flash the yellow engine light on the dash.

I did 100 odd great miles yesterday thanks to some good clothing and Oxford heated grips.

And not one more starting problem, so will have to check next time what makes it good.

A sensor,or switch ?

anyone give any light ?

I think not, i put the sidestand down and it cut the power to the starter too.,so it may be something to do with the  movement of the gearbox or engine or just bike

Hi
Firstly, these posts should have been in the original thread. It's easier for those wanting to help if they can see what's been's tried already. Listing any mods undertaken is also useful .
A couple of things to try in the sequence listed below:
1) If it doesn't fire immediately it's unlikely to fire at all. The best method is press the starter, if it fails to start within a few seconds, switch it off then straight back on and try again.  This method worked everytime for me when I was having similar issues.
2) Set the tickover to between 1250 - 1350rpm
3) Add some injector cleaner to the fuel.
4) Replace the fuel line. It may look okay but the only way to be sure is to replace it with some flexible injector hose.
Ignore the cel when you're attempting to start it if it goes out immediately when the engine is running.
Goodluck, it can be a frustrating business faultfinding. I could write a book on my experiences in the 7 years I've owned my gen2

Hi thanks for the reply,

what is a "cel"?

Yes i do reset the ignition, but the light kept flashing, it only went out when i either moved the bike or gearbox or something, i will be able to get a better idea if it happens again,
then i can do one thing at a time to try to pinpoint what helps,

its not a loose wire as it runs fine when on the move.

(I could not post these attempts on the first thread as i did not know i was able to make the problem go away)

Watch this space.
