coolant query
« on: 19 March 2012, 06:24:33 pm »
Hi

Just changing the rad coolant....the yamaha manual says ' ethylene glycol' but all i can seem to find is something else called 'ethandeiol' spelling or similar.

This was in the local B.P.Garage and in Morrisons , the latter being 'blue star' pre-mixed.

is any of this stuff any good does anyone know as i don't want to buy it and find i should not be using it?

Thanks

I've had Halfrauds advanced (ready mixed red stuff) in mine now for 3,000 miles now with no problems, go for it.

i only use vauxhall antifreeze which is red and is longlife with a 5 year service life, and yes it is still good for 5 years, and it is silicate free and cheaper than halfords antifreeze,i mix it with distilled water

I'm sure you could use that stuff.

But I think the best approach is to drain off the old stuff, flush it all out and replace with the long life stuff.  Long life  stuff means you can forget about it for 5 years.

It's best to flush out the old stuff as there is the possibility that some standard and long life anti-freezes don't mix well.
