Hi,
Just received my Fazer8 yesterday and decided to get some miles on the bike. I really love it, it's put the fun back into biking for me.
But, I did 200 miles today and 2 issues appeared. My bum was killing me after about 60 miles and I got a vibration from the right
handlebar for most of the day but more obvious at about 70mph.
Is this an issue or is it just me? Any remedies to take the pain away?

It may be that the vibration settles down with a few more miles on the clock. Bikes don't need much running in these days, but they do settle a bit after a while.
Some people have suggested elsewhere on this site to use padded cycling shorts to help with a sore backside, but also say they can feel a bit on the bulky side. I find I definitely suffer from this more in this heat we're currently experiencing. Try good quality merino wool boxer shorts too, much more comfortable against the skin and helps to reduce chafing. Don't get the cheap stuff, it can be itchy. They're actually quite cool (in the temperature sense!) to wear too. Otherwise, it's going to be seat modifications I fear.

Thanks nick crisp for your comments. It looks like for pading on the bum and just getting used to the seat. Hopefully the vibration goes soon once the bike beds itself in. Still taking it easy with the revs but looking forward to opening it up and enjoying its full power, I had a 07 fazer s2 model which I really enjoyed and as usual should have kept but didn't. This new bike puts a smile back on my face and happy to leave it parked anywhere as its a great looking bike. chuffed with my purchase,

. Vibration not an issue on my 60 reg bike, and it is something I am pretty sensative to, so hopefully it will settle. Maybe it's just tension from your new ride.

I got a gel pad put in the seat which helped a little. I also get a vibe through the right handlebar, but only at 6,000 rpm+ so only notice it when cruising down the motorway at the same speed for a while.

Thanks for your comments. Its seems there might be a vibration there but as you say it could be that riding the bike for the first time didn't help. I certainly will be looking at a gel pad or doing something else with the seat. My friend who has a FZ1 fazer sent his seat away and had work done on it. Cost about £160..Is an option but not the first one. I'll have to get the seat sorted out thou to really settle down with the bike and concentrate on the fun part of it.

Did I read somewhere that the seat for the FZ1 is the same as the Fazer8. Just wondered as it might be easier to get a second hand replacement and get it made to suit me. I was ok with the standard Fazer 8 seat but have lately found it a bit hard. I have a gel pad but it spoils the look I think, and I want to keep a standard seat for when I sell it.

I thought about that as well.
The seats look the same, but have different part numbers.

I wondering if its because the 800 has a narrower tank at the back. Guess the only way is to try one.

I was looking at someones Fazer 8 next to my Fazer 1 at the weston bike night and the 8 seat looks a little bit different to mine, I don’t know for definite but I am fairly sure its more narrow? If you live anywhere near Weston Super Mare you are welcome to see if mine fits before making a purchase

My friend who has a Fazer 1000, 11 plate also found his seat too hard and had it upholstered by a company called motorbike-seats. He sent both rider and pillon seats to the company who padded out the riders seat with a 'gelastic pad' insert and then covered both seats with a lovely looking basket weave fabric and finished it off with red pipeing. A nice finish and now much more comfier than the original. Costs about £160 but calling the company I'm sure you'd get a quote.
Other options to look at are corbin or sargent seats which are I think a bit more expensive. These are nicer but more expensive options to a pad sitting on top of the seat but i'm sure all are better options than the original one.
I've not done anything yet to the seat but will probably look at getting the pad insert in the seat from motorbike-seats.
The vibration on the bike seems to have settled down and looking to carry out the first service of an oil and filter change.

Thanks Tork. I know a guy locally who can make one up for me, but I wanted to keep the original as well, so I will just keep my eyes open and see if one comes up on fleaby. No rush. I can always give myself some more padding by eating more doughnuts

Or you can do what I do. My fz1 seat gets a bit uncomfy after 80 miles, so I bought a pair of padded cycling shorts. No more numb bum!
£10 off t'interweb, cheaper than a seat rebuild!

Thanks steviest for your cheapist option of getting padded cycle shorts. I'm sure they will work. I'll probably spend my cash on upgrading the rear suspension once I get past the first service. Thanks everyone for your welcome comments.

maybe it's just me, and I have what some may call 'padding' at the rear ?!?!!? had a few issues with pins and needles but it's taken me about 1500 miles to bed my seat in and feels quite comfy now, just need a few 'adjustments' every now and then especially over any distance but no real problems now..

The gel seat pad from louis moto mentioned earlier has passed the test. It adds a decent time before numb bum seats in. The downside is you can't take it off without taking the seat off, not that I have. It also holds water if wet. I sat on it in shorts to move the bike and after it looked like I had wet myself.

I've experienced vibration / pins and needles in my right hand on every bike I've owned (ER6, GSXR600, Fazer8), I think its more to do with the way I grip the throttle rather than the bike. Ive found that trying to relax my hand, like I do on the left helps, still get a dead hand from time to time though. Funnily enough I also get in when I ride a push bike!!
