Removing rear body cowling to fit Givi Rack.
« on: 19 November 2012, 10:52:13 am »
I don't yet have a Haynes manual for the bike, and still quite new to it, so I've not pulled it apart yet. Any pointers to removing the rear body to fit Givi rack? Need to tackle this tonight to pick up a top box tomorrow!

I see two bolts under seat and two underneath, plus the four in the grab handle. Any others? Anything else need removing to gain access etc?

4 bolts from the grab handle and then you have plastic push studs under the cowl, along with the hooks for attaching tie down - all these need to be removed

be careful with the "push studs" - you need to loosen them with a quarter or half turn with the screwdriver to loosen them and then pull out.

then just ease off the rear cowl.

All sorted. :)

Though I can't get one of the plastic half screw clips back in, as the rack is now in the way. The other one was missing!

When bolting the M3 plate to the arms, I had to squeeze the arms together a bit, they were a little too far apart to match the holes on the rack. Bit tricky really. Is this normal? Have I fitted it right?!

Hey Arfa,

I think that's normal -  I remember having the same difficulty with the arms being a little too far apart aswell. The bolts eventually fit but are right at the outer end of the slots in the top plate right? Aslong as it's all bolted down correctly and everything is solid, I'd say it's good to go.

Yep, all solid. Picked up a top box from chap off ebay last night and took it to work today all laoded up.  All fine, no problems.

Dunno why, but I'm now really struggling to get the bike up on centre stand. Dunno if the little extra weight of top box on back is causing it, but really struggled this morning, with all my weight on stand lever! Never had trouble getting it on stand with same luggage in panniers on back... Weird!
