Restricting a 600
« on: 23 September 2012, 11:13:01 am »
Hi all, just wondering if one of you guys could do me a favour, son has just passed his A2 bike test which means he is restricted for 2 years to 33bhp. He is thinking of buying a fzs600 and I would like a drawing of the washers that go into the air intake so as I can make some.  Can anyone help me out?  ;)

i dont know about the size but i know he,ll be chuffed with bike even when it is restricted  ;)
mine is restricted with washers and it still goes like stink on acceleration -its only mid and top range that the washers restrict it - or so ive been told so dont flame me if im wrong , but after going from a 125 to restricted 600 im still smiling even after two weeks  :lol

I found riding Mrs's 600 with restritor on they dont hang around
just have to  use gears as the bike runs out of steam at 6500 rpm
but still good for breaking national speed limit !!!!!!

its not just the washers (gaskets) but the carb needles that restrict it as well as they are a good bit thicker

hey there, if you email me at feel_the_noise@hotmail.co.uk I can send you pictures I took of my restrictors  being measured calipers, you should be able to get the measurements from them. I just took the pictures quickly before I put them in for reference.

The ones I use work great, was dyno tested and gives 30hp but still does not hang around!

You don't need certificates if you have a full licence, but i would think if you have a restricted licence for 2 years then you will need one as proof if you are stopped if you are on a bike that's normally over 33bhp?  :rolleyes
I s'pose it would depend on the knowledge of the the police that stopped you, but the real problem would be with insurers i'd imagine?

The certificate is not recognized by law therefore you don't need it.

There must be some kind of law involved otherwise people simply wouldn't need to, or even bother, restricting their bikes?  :rolleyes

Nope not at all. I didn't restricted mine. Then I crashed and decided I should.

You only really need to restrict it in the event of a claim and it's part of your license condition.

:lol  That's what i thought i said  :lol
If you are unfortunate enough to have a bad accident and your bike gets hauled off for inspection and found not to be restricted when it's meant to be, then your insurance is invalid, so no pay out and then you get nicked for riding without insurance as well.  :rolleyes

i think if you're on a restricted license you have to restrict the bike but you don't have to have a cert saying it's restricted. however some insurance companies do look for them

Of course there is.  It's not driving in accordance with your licence.

Quick google and I found this.  They say up to  £1000 fine, 3-6 points and potentially a ban.  The relevant part is "you do not have the relevant licence for that class of vehicle."  You've also got to remember that your insurance will be invalid.  If you smashed up someones car , your insurance would pay out the third party (they're legally obliged to afaik) but then they'd come after you to get their money back.
