Brake caliper original color
« on: 05 October 2022, 05:36:25 pm »
Hey guys,

I‘m currently rebuilding my front end. Forks are already done and back on the bike. Now I wanted to change the brake pads and while cleaning the brake calipers with a wire brush I noticed they started to become bronze.

I actually prefer this color over some boring black like they were before, probably because they were caked in brake dust.

My problem is that this bronze color fades away really quickly and turns black again. Just touching it with my glove turns them black. So are they originally colored bronze or am I just wasting my time here trying to bring this color back? I already tried cleaning them with brake cleaner, carb cleaner and rim cleaner but nothing really works I‘d say they even turn them black again rather than clean them.

Whats happing is the brass from the bristles on your brush is rubbing off on the caliper, its why I use the stiffest nylon brush I can find when cleaning calipers.
