Red/Black Gen1 for sale Stafford - previous forum owners?
« on: 12 January 2022, 08:46:01 pm »
Just wondering if this belonged to anyone on here?
Looks to be a very clean nice example but imho, a bit strong on pricing?

Prices for them everywhere seem to be creeping up - usual ebay optimism is pushing them up towards £3k unless the bikes have big mileages and corrosion / engine paint shedding have taken hold

Looks nice but more than I paid for my gen2 with not much more miles, I wouldn't mind it but not for that price, I'm starting to miss my gen1

Mainly because it had more throttle snatch which at the time I found a bit uncivilised but now I kinda miss it and it seemed to have more low down grunt, the gen2 handles much better though, mine is an 08 I've read earliar models still had the snatch, I did like the older school tech on the gen1 but that's probably just my age

That’s not expensive for a fine FZS 1000! There is a silver 03 one on Autotrader, one owner from new, supposedly mint, under 8000 miles. £4995!  Seriously, try finding a really decent one, there is a lot of them about but good ones are now rare!

Im all for our bikes going up in value, but this is clearly taking the piss. The dealer is asking 2009 FZ1 money - https://www.thebikemarket.co.uk/yamaha/fz-fazer/fz1. I can see wear and tear all over, that negates that high price also.

I’m on my 2nd Gen 1, had the Gen 2 but after spending a lot of money trying to eliminate the throttle snatch I got rid of it. Shame as it looked great, handled well and was quick but I couldn’t put up with the poxy snatchy throttle. Once Mike had Ivanised my Gen 1 the difference was massive.

So the snatch on ealier gen 2's is more extreme than the gen 1's?

I'm not sure that the Gen1's have a reputation for throttle snatch, if this is an issue then you could make sure your chain is properly adjusted, because the Gen1 has a long swingarm the chain needs a bit more slack than most bikes. Another thing you could check is clutch adjustment, try adjusting at the engine end of the cable rather than the handlebar adjuster. Early Gen2's definitely had a problem with fuelling that caused throttle snatch, Gen1's fuelling is generally pretty good.

I don't have my gen 1 anymore, it even did it when the chain was baggy as a whores knicker elastic, but I found that quite endearing once I'd got used to it, the snatch on early gen 2's are a thing of online review legend I've never actually ridden one, the gen 2 I have now is as smooth as James bond after a vodka martini, but all in all a good bike plenty fast enough for me
