Rev counter: 3k, normal, 0k. WTF?
« on: 25 October 2011, 06:42:14 pm »
Mk1 FZS600  rev counter doesn't always shows the revs, it shows 3k, then the revs, then 0k.

I've had the engine out to drill out an exhaust stud and do a bit of painting, so I'm guessing I've not reconnected a wire, or pinched something. I can't find anything obvious though, and can't find anything in the manual. Can anyone help???

Check the throttle position sensor, details in Hot Poop.

have a look at your throttle position sensor as the 3k reading on the tacho usualy means that

Thanks chaps, I suspect you are right as it's struggling to go into diagnostic mode, and just sits at 10k when it does. So I guess a dodgy connection somewhere... I'll have to get the circuit diagram out and get testing. This is the start though so thanks.

Well that was quick; the TPS is at fault. Fortunately I've got a spare attached to my spare carbs, so all done now. Not sure what can have broken it with the engine out?

Bump. This happened to me although its 0-4k-actual revs (might be other way round but you get the idea). Bike still works fine although my speedo stopped working last week i suspect the wire from speedo drive (which is okay) has simply split right through as it came loose before and started chopping itself on the brake disc. Is the rev counter issue likely to be related to the speedo not working or is it simply a tps issue. If i try resetting the tps is there any chance off ending up without a throttle?

Ah just found 4k is the speedo sensor whereas 3k is tps on "hot-poop". Thanks.
