An odd question

How would I go about completely decreasing a chain? It will be for ornamental use so anything goes.
I quite like mechanical art and upcycling parts. I have made a couple of clocks from my old brake discs, shelving brackets from old sprockets etc etc and I'm looking at a project for my current chain and sprockets (once they come off the bike) so need the chain completely grease free.
Any suggestions of something I could bathe it in?

Paraffin or diesel to wash/soak the black caked on crud off, then wash in break cleaner.

Or white spirit.  But if you have any paraffin/diesel left over you can use it to clean the chain on your bike.  Either will clean but are an oil, so will not induce corrosion and you can lub over it.

If you know anyone who works or even ask your local powder coaters they use tricho baths,that would definately do it.

I would do this but use brake cleaner to blast out after the parafin, you can get it from screwfix when you get your parafin
