If you want to use a phone on the bike, have a look at the App 'Calimoto'

For traditional bike Satnavs, use 'MyRoute' on the laptop. It converts routes into most formats for loading onto Satnavs.

I just use google maps and send it to my phone which is waterproof and mounted on my bars.  Simples.

I am a map man always have a map in the tank bag, it give a better big picture of the area, but use my phone as a sat nav. if the map is not detailed enough either the new Windy Maps (new) it allows route saving and has offline maps or Offline Maps and Navigation which is good, but does not allow saving the route.
