lacquer the engine or not
« on: 11 April 2019, 04:01:51 pm »
Been reading the previous silver engine paint posts, no mention of finishing with lacquer  has this been tried before or is it really just thought of as a waste of time?

When I painted my 600 engine a few years back I never bothered with lacquer. I used the logic that if it chipped or anything it would be more straightforward to touch up as needed if there was no lacquer.

Lacquer is not suitable for engines especially petrol ones as petrol softens/discolours it.  Will crack when subject to extremes of heat.  VHT paint is available in enamel, metallic and matt

Cheers   I wasn't sure whether it would act as preventative to blistering or not.  No lacquer = time effort saved  ;)
