Oil leak from between casings
« on: 04 September 2018, 02:21:42 pm »
Hi all, I was cleaning behind the headers earlier (Gen 1) and spotted what looks like oil that has been misting out from between where the 2 crankcase halves are joined horizontally with the grey sealer. Was hoping it might be coolant but it definitely seems like oil. Anyone else had something similar? Looks like it could be a pig of a job to fix.

A pic would help diagnosis.

You can’t see the oil leak on the sealer here but this is the area and you can see some oil misting......

Looks like road grime rather than a leak to me?

Give it a good clean with gunk or paraffin and see what happens but I wouldn't be concerned.

Sorry but a second look seems to show I was looking in wrong place!

Is that a crack I can see in centre of pic? Looks about an inch.

If so - serious!

No its not cracked, the oil seems to start appearing on the joint where the grey sealer is between the casings. I'm keeping an eye on it, its not pouring out but I don't want it to get worse.
