Hollyday websites
« on: 18 February 2017, 10:17:54 am »
Thought it about time I got some sun on my old bones so went onto Travelsupermarket and found a good deal In Turkey.
By the time I called my mate and told him to pack his mankini and go online it had gone up by £60 !!!!
Then when we clicked on the hotel to book, it went up another £12 each ????

My guess is they monitor the cookies and think............"Right, that's Delboy interested. Up the prices."

Going to Turkey I would be more inclined to be packing a bullet proof vest rather than a mankini , Try this check out the holiday you want then book it using another computer just a thought.

Set your browser to Private Mode and see what price it gives. If it's cheaper, clear the cookies in your main browser and book immediately :thumbup

TURKEY  :eek are you mad
Also I do not think you can get travel insurance for Turkey either.

Yep we have found the same thing and thought that were were imagining it, use another device or clear your cashe.

Also some of those sites are a con because they say that the prices are not "live" so when you book the actual price is always higher

I've been to Turkey about 5 times now, great reliable weather and i love their food, but i must admit i wouldn't go again now.
Saying that, i was there around '92 with my then British/Turkish girlfriend, and she translated a news report on the radio in a cafe we were in and a bomb had just gone off a couple of miles down the road. But then we have our own shit to deal with over here as well so is there anywhere that is really safe?

I saw a BBC morning program not long  ago Rip off Britain holidays and someone said exactly the same about flights how they'd look it up then go back 5 mins later and it would have gone up😡
Travel expert crappie said that's as they only have a certain amount at cheaper prices and when those have gone the prices creep up and it's basically ya snooze , ya loose !!
Go to agree with Lew on this one though about the bullet proof vest, it doesn't seem Turkey the safest place at the mo but then isn't it on the border of Syria ??

Another con is the £29.00 rooms at Premier Inn's you used to see Lenny Henry TV ads. Yes they exist, there is maybe one room at the hotel. Premier Inns operate a bump policy as regards pricing.
I know this as I was booking for an SX forum ride out weekend and booking well in advance, 25 rooms we wanted they would not discount, there reasoning was as they are a budget hotel blah blah!! I argued that we had always used P Inns for the last 3 years so how about a bit of loyalty here, no these are the rules. You can do a block booking sir, okay how much will that be , FULL WHACK top rate, fuck that I said. It was time to teach P Inns a lesson. So we all booked

Premier Flex: If you book a Premier Flex rate you may choose whether to pay for your room in full at the time of booking or to pay on arrival. You will be able to amend or cancel your reservation up to 1pm on the day of arrival without charge.

As we started the booking process for two nights, because of increased demand for rooms the price went from £58.00 a night to £72.00 by the time the last lad booked(pay on arrival). We had agreed that on the Friday morning right up to two hours before arrival to cancel the lot.

We had already made a block discounted booking with Best Western just down the road a month before the meet. We did have a couple of lads join us on the meet and when they arrived we got talking about what we did with P Inns. One of the late joiners pointed out when he booked this Best Western he actually got a better deal that we did, okay it was only £7.00 over the weekend but it was £7.00 after all, come on here that is nearly 2&1/2 pints of beer money. We tackled the duty manager who was sympathetic but said he could do nothing about it. He did suggest he could bring it up on the Monday with the Hotel manager and see if we could get a refund. Best Western contacted us all individually and refunded back to our cards the £7.00 seeing as we had been ideal guests and as a gesture of good will. We have been back to that hotel again and got the best rate on the day.
Another one to watch out for is www.booking.com.

This coming May we have a meet arranged for Charleville-Mezieres here in France. We have one by one booked for the IBIS hotel in Charleville. I am the only one from the group who lives in France so the lads thought as Lew attends the UK meets let's show loyalty and save him the long haul ride to the UK, it is still a 7 hour ride for me to get there mind lol. Anyway the blog on the website says book now and pay on arrival, free cancellation. I have duly booked and bang out goes the money from my account within 24 hours. I contacted the hotel and they said that they have changed their terms & conditions. I contacted www.booking.com, I was asked if I would like to cancel or amend my booking? No I just want the same deal as my mates from the UK as their cards have not yet been debited, get this for a body swerve , as I had used my bank debit card and my mates had booked with Credit cards that is why they have not been charged. I suppose a bit of Karma at the end of the day as I really screwed over P Inns a while back lol. Still I have paid I Euro's and my mates will get hammered on the £ v € exchange rate by the greedy banks.
Roll on May looking forward to this one.

It does border Syria and Iraq but the holiday resorts are more on the West and South West coast. I would certainly avoid Istanbul though.

Teletext holidays are the worst we saw they were advertising a hol for less than anyone else but you have to ring for a price and its an Indian call centre that I don't trust anyway and they say "let me check for you and instantly the price is £70 each more than the advertised and then that is without baggage so that adds another £50 each, then he says oh hold on I have made a mistake and the price gos up again  :eek at that point we just put the phone down but he rang back cause they now had our number told him no thanks too expensive he says oh let me have a look ---------- dont bother, do you think we trust you now.

I have never had an issue with JET2 I would recommend them.
The other thing you must do is check out the hotel on google maps and street and satalight view then you can see what that "short walk to beach" really is

OK..........sitrep update.

I went online this morning and the price offered was down to £146 !! ( yes I know I'm a cheap bastard) so naturally I clicked through and booked. Called me old chum and told him to do likewise and PRONTO. He did and was offered the exact same deal at £212 !!!!
Meanwhile I received a text from Travel Republic asking me to contact customer services. I did and , you guessed it,
"Sorry the room at that price has gone and we can only offer you that deal @ £164 "

OK, bollocks to you cancel the whole thing and refund my deposit.

Well we can refund the room cost and the coach transfer but the flight is not refundable ????

So the choice they left me was to pay an extra £18 but go on holiday, or pay £121 for foc-all?

By now I was ready to go into a screaming melt down hissy fit so I just paid up.

Now my poor old school chum is back to square one as he has to try and book the same flight, same hotel at the best rate available??
I used to not give a foc, then I discovered Red Bull and now I don't give a flying foc !!!

Its a complete FOCing con - all of those Lov hols, trav repub, book.com, telextex they all work the same saying the rooms are full but you can not cancel the whole lot because the flights are all still there so you are forced to go to another hotel you did not want or pay the extra.
Best bet is to pay the extra and go with the proper JET2 and so on - or book the flights and hotel separately yourself

Good news. Mate called this morning to say he had booked it all but independently!

Flight a bit cheaper! Hotel a bit dearer. Transfer a bit cheaper. Overall about a fiver more than I paid.

Now, planning a starvation diet till May to gain maximum benefit from the all-inclusive week.  :lol

That is good news - just shows you that you do not save anything by using these companies and there are no hidden surprises (or cons )
