What's it worth?
« on: 03 March 2012, 10:50:10 am »
Hello Fazer owners.

I wonder if you fellas (& fella-esses!) can give me some idea of what the following would fetch?

2000 FZS600S (Gold & Black paint)
1 lady owner from new
Near mint condition
3000 genuine miles
MOT'd & Taxed (all MOT's since 2003 present)
Always garaged
Rarely been above 10,000 RPM

Looking around, Fazers of this age and model go from anything from a grand upwards, however, this is a particularly rare beast that would need little more than a dusting off to look like it just left the showroom.

There is a small scuff on the generator cover, left bar end and lever ball where it went over at 0 MPH a couple of years ago in one of those embarrassing over-balance situations, but the marking is slight and easily rectified for little cost.

It runs and rides perfectly, but the tyres would probably want replacing as they are the originals that came on the bike !

Focking again, second time around.

Looney tune

Based on mine, i'd hazard a guess at upwards of £2,500 - sounds like its in perfect condition other than 1 or 2 minor scratches and has very low mileage. Hell it averages at just over 300 miles a year! I do that in a fortnight  :eek

Hello Urban Tangleweed

I've been looking at the price of loads of bikes recently trying to find the one which is waiting for me.

Okay, it's a mint bike and low mileage (sounds as if the mileage can be verified as well).  But it is the oblong headlight model (we can argue about this all day but the Foxeye looks light years more modern), and it's in a love-it-or-hate-it colour scheme.

It'll depend very much on where you're located as well, i.e. population density, especially with that colour scheme.

Personally I think £2500 is way off the mark.  It may sit on a dealer's showroom floor at £2500 waiting for somebody who used to have the same bike to buy it out of sentimentality, but I reckon £1600 to £1700 would be plenty for it.

I've seen a very nice blue 2001 bike with 13k miles on it go for £970.  Then a red 2000 bike with 13.5k miles go for £1450.  I think the low miles ain't gonna add a grand.

Cheers,
Andy

Buying from a dealer with new tyres, new seals on the brake calipers/master cylinders and a decent warranty would get the price up to £2500. Selling privately £1700 looks to be more realistic.
So about a pound a mile in depreciation alone. The moral being, if you buy a bike don't leave it in the garage. :rolleyes

Yeah, I guess I was way off base. I didn't shop around at all for mine - money burns holes in my pockets far too fast :( I probably paid over the top for mine based on what other people are saying hence the over estimate.

Ah, don't fret about it Dead Eye... you've still got a great bike. Enjoy it enough and for long enough and the initial purchase price soon becomes insignificant. I estimate I've spent somewhere in the region of £4000 on tyres alone, add on the oil, filters, parts and that's already more than I paid for the bike new. As for petrol... can't be bothered to work it out on a year by year basis, but at today's prices it's guzzled more than 15 grand's worth. :rollin

Oh im not fretting at all, I love the bike and have no regrets on the price what so ever. Ive spent nearly as much on the bike as it cost me to start with and that was only 6 months ago! To be fair, it didnt need any of the work I did (except tyres), I just like getting my hands dirty :D

Sling it on fleeBay when the weather gets warmer. Having looked it seems like June/July is the best time although some competition. Give it a good review with lots of photos pointing out the good and bad.

Big up the good points like service, low millage, condition, how it was stored and give it a good polish and ensure you photos are if focus. It sounds like it will sell it's self.

Keep the guys on here abreast when it's for sale as there maybe some intrest and point ebayers to this forum so they know what they are buying as we all love the Fazer and it let's people know independently it's a good bike.

I just did the direct access course and asked my instructor if the Fazer was a good first bike (I was worried it would be to big) but he said it would be perfect as it was not to small and not to mad. Point this out as well.

To be honest when people look at mine they always say ahhh....... the Fazer and then they talk about how it was there first big bike.....
