The computer say's NO...!
« on: 20 March 2012, 05:05:07 pm »
Hello all, I want to fit some side panniers to my gen 1. Don't like the look of givi's e21's but do like the v35's. Two dealers have both said they don't list anything other than the e21 side rack. I know there is a weight issue but am sure I've seen gen 1's with other panniers. Has anyone fitted other panniers, if so what rack did they use ? and have you had any issues with them. If only givi did a v21 styled like the v 35's I'd go for them as I can see the width of the 35's could cause problems filtering. So come on let me tap in to this font of experience... :D

I have seen Givi racks and side case mountings on a Gen 1 with larger than the recommended 21L side cases.

I have the SW Motch Alu rack and side carriers on mine with V46 top case and E41 side cases, done thousands of miles with them on without problem. (apart from it can be a bit tight for the pillions feet if they wear large boots)

Mounting hardware on

and off as it is all quick release.

Pillion footrest clearance

Hope that helps.

Nice set up Tmation, unfortunately I have a givi top box rack so need to go with givi side rails. Love the fork conversion Keith but where are your rear indicators, does the side rails affect them or do I need glasses... :lol

small smoked ones, but the angle of the pic as hidden them, no problems them being on or seen when luggage is on

. . . So come on let me tap in to this font of experience... :D

I've used E41 Monokey panniers and E450 top box on a wingrack fitted to an FZS600 - toured heavily loaded without issues.

Not got around to getting a fitting kit for my 1000 but ithe wingrack is a very sturdy arrangement.

I've got a standard givi top box rack on the 1000 at present for the topbox and the alternative is to add the pannier rails to this rack. Probably not as solid as the wingrack but I wouldn't have any qualms going this route.

I think all the quoted weight limitations are very conservative - just normal a**e covering if you ask me.
