Rolling off the throttle issue
« on: 26 February 2015, 07:35:20 pm »
Hey guys, only been on my fazer a couple of days now (first 600 cc, only ever been on smaller bikes) I am getting on ok with it but i am having an issue when i roll the throttle off the bike seems to do a lunging motion, this is worst in first and second gears, is this just bad technique, common in powerful bikes and normal, or is something wrong? it has just had a service, she's only done 3100 miles. Any info is much appreciated!

Just sounds a bit like you're rolling off a bit too quickly in the low gears...possibly just the engine braking being really quick in 1st gear that it feels like lurching.

Do 50mph in 6th gear, roll off the throttle quickly and see if it lurches...i bet it doesnt.

It can be tricky at first trying to get used to the fine control on a bigger bike and learning to use the clutch much more in the first 2 gears as oppose to when driving a car and the extra weight of a bigger bike at lower speeds probably needs more clutching if you're slow moving in a que coming up to a roundabout stop/start type stuff.....prob just squeeze the clutch in a little as you're backing off the throttle in 1st.

Your carbs may also needing a carb balance to make them nice and smooth and you'll notice this more in the lower gears and then add that to you getting used to the bike and it will magnify
Easiest way to go fast........don't buy a blue bike

hi,

i have only had my Fazer for a month or so and done about 300 miles, i have had some issues with low RPM handling, but it sounds like maybe you are chopping the throttle off...

I found the Twist of the Wrist series excellent books/dvd's to understand the way a bike should handle and why throttle control is important, and why a bike can behave like it does

It has made me feel more confident, so check them out - there is one in the Downloads section, under Useful Stuff....Keith Code....
