wheels (powder coating)
« on: 31 January 2012, 12:21:51 am »
i have a mint 2003, foxeye 600cc, 4,500 miles fazer, and the standard black wheels, i was wondering if it would be worth the money and mither, to have these powder coated in metalic silver ,to match bike. does anybody know the rough cost of having front & rear wheel powder coated in metalic silver, or am i just best leaving them alone ??  not seen a late fazer with silver wheels, only the later ones, soi thought it might look great. many thanks for any replies. Roy

How ever good your chain oil is... ie none sling types... you will always get something land on the rear rim... dust and crap cant help but be attracted to it... it will be black before you know it.. unless you suffer from OCD and will be cleaning her after every ride? Brake dust can be a mare on both rims too!! Good idea, just dont know how practical it really is?? I had a F&R rim done last year in moonlight black which has a silver flicker in the colour for £150 including the prep. Your call... what do other Foccors think??  :D

I'm going to have mine done, I know someone that will take them to work with him, £20 for the wheels and £30-£50 for the frame when I get round to it, I'll have to remove tyres and bearings etc but well worth it.

I'm in Kent if your near by

Thats a good price, I'm in Kent too, from Rainham. Its always handy to know different companies ie; powder coaters, painters etc. Where abouts in Kent are you?

Chatham. If you don't mind striping them yourself I can ask how much to do them if you want. Your better off making bungs for the bearings and valve so you know you won't have to clean them out later

I don't think you will get a bright silver in powder coating as bright as the Yamaha metallic silver due to the powder coating process, I enquired about mine last year and was told if I wanted a metallic/bright type silver they would have to wet spray it rather than powder coat.

When I was doing my apprenticeship around 13 years ago we had mirror silver powder... was a lot more expensive though... some thing like 5/6 times the price of standard gear... :eek and spraying two wheels would use less than an 8th of a box hence why powder coating shops dont like buying it in as it can be an expensive colour sitting on the shelve.  :\

I'm ok at the moment, not in any need of anything to be powder coated but may get in touch when I want to get my Bandit frame done hopefully later in the year, to compare prices etc....  :)
