Advice Request

Hi Guys,

Same as my last post ... the mate in Birmingham has now got himself the bike    it's a Boy Racer ... Honda CBR 250R ... 2011, mint, less than 800 miles.

So the questions have started 

Today ... he is asking what model of Optimate he should buy to keep the battery sweet during the winter ... at 75 years young he reckons his leathers still fit over his belly ... but he ain't going out if it's wet or cold 

My Optimate is about 20 years old and still doing the job ... these days it seems they do at least six models ... your exert advice on what he should buy will be well appreciated

I think the choice of Optimate requires more information.

What's the capacity of the battery being charged?
Is it just to keep it alive or more to charge it from flat?
Is the bike kept outside?
What's the blokes inside leg measurement ?
How much money does he want to waste?




Just get the cheap one.

Was gonna say the same sort of thing, as long as it has the ability to stop charging when it's full then they generally all do the same thing.
Just don't get one that's too high in amps for the battery.

Truth is you have confirmed my own thoughts ... these extra numbers (on things that all look the same) are often a bit iffy.

I will pass your thinking back to my mate ... the money saved will fill the fuel tank and get him out of the armchair.

I got the Optimate 6 for Xmas last year and have to say they have come on a lot. Used it to bring back a dead car battery and the monitoring and trickle charge is very good. I use it routinely on the bike, kit car and van though so need something a bit more juicy.

Agree with above though, if it's only for that bike, for such a small battery the cheap ones will be more than adequate.
